How many round of .22 do you shoot in a year?

Just curious if anyone else shoots a crapload of rimfire. I can't afford to shoot centerfire as much as I would like to so I probably average 300 rnds of 22 a week. So I guess that puts me at about 3 cases a year. I have the feeling this may be on the low end of what some of you shoot. Wish I could afford to shoot my 9mm as much as I do my 22 but I am really starting to fall in love with the round again. Larz

I bust out several thousand rounds a year.. but no where near your 300+ a week! :eek:

Well, I bought a .22 handgun for cheap practice in June. Went through three 500-rd boxes of Remington .22 in a couple weeks. Bought two more boxes. Burned through those in a month.

And I just bought a .22 rifle for practice - guess all you guys should buy stock in Remington ammo.

The bad thing about shooting.22 is that it's just like peanuts - you really can't stop. I find myself saying "Just one more mag, just one more mag . . . "

I go through between two and four thousand a year, depending on how much centerfire I get to reload. As a side note, I was actually shocked to learn there are shooters who would run out of 22 RF ammo before they bought more! I thought you had to have a brick or two extra at all times, just like you should always have salt and pepper in the kitchen.

Ahhhh.. takes me back to child hood.. a $10 bill.. a brick of 22 shells and a case of soda pop and Dad's Marlin 39a and his Ruger mk1 Target pistol. My brother and I would shoot all day.

We haven't done that in a while. But every time I go to the range I take my MK2.. just to "warm up" before shooting big bore stuff. Then there are those "train the new shooter weekends" where hundreds of 22 shells go merrily down range. And last but not least.. the challenge of the rim fire prarie dog hunt. Its a lot tougher than it sounds folks. I use a marlin 995 autoloader with a 7 shot clip and a weaver 1.5-4.5 fine cross haired scope. Ive shot the thing so much I've replaced the barrel pin and TWO bolt buffers. And that's no where near how many rounds I've put through the mark 2.

I'd guess I shoot 2-3k of 22 a year in a good year and 1k in a slow one.

Wow I guess I shoot quite a bit of 22. I recently bought one of those hanging targets made out of hardened steel that you can shoot thousands of times without it denting or wearing. I take orange spray paint and paint one side of the target to make it easier to see from far away. I usually set that up in the range behing my house and rest against a tree 45 yds away with my mk2 competition slabside pistol. I can hit the target which is proably 2.5 X 4.5 " almost half the time. It has really improved my pistol skillls. If I bought a scope for the pistol I would improve quite a bit but I think that would take the fun out of it. I love watching the target spin when I get a good hit on it. I highly recomend this type of target for anyone that loves to plink. I also love shooting my 10/22 at golf balls. I usually go to the range with 5 boxes of ammo in my pockets and come back with empty cardboard. I however think I overestimated my rounds per year usage above. While I may shoot like 5 hundred a week now. I didn't factor in that I probably won't shoot much at all when it is winter. Anyways. I love my 22s.

Since I am a 22WMR fan, I have to be a little more concious of round counts, and costs. I'm just waiting for another GunShow here in JAX so I can get more PMC Predator for $2.50 a box! It outshoots all the high dollar stuff in my 25MN ;)

Near as I can figure about 7K. I just finished a 5K case I bought at the end of November.

Add about 2K of .223, 3-4K of 9mm and about 1.5K of .45 to that. Not to mention .308, .300 mag and some 12ga.

Larz,
Minimum 3 bricks a year.
After I warm up with my carry piece...USP.40C. (Low cover to raise arms and fire double action) Once I am satisfied that I am hitting near point of aim, then I go to double taps and Mozambique. Then when I am ok with the results of those drills, I round out my day with 50 to 75 feet of fun with the .22.
I get the targets with the six 25 yd. slowfire bullseyes and I go from slow to faster shoot and recover hitting each of the six bulleyes until I run out.
Then I finish up with the .40 trying to put a magazine of .40's into each bullseye.
Just looking for consistency and that Zen like thing when everything comes together.

Hmmm.. lets see. My 1999 round sheet reads this way:

9mm = 13k
.223 = 12k
.380 = 4k
.45 = 5k
.22 = 15k

Man, I've got to start reloading.
