I know six familys that have been have been flooded out by the hurricans, two in Mississippi three in LA and one in Texas.

Here are their stories in MS the two familys are related both live about 3 blocks from the beach both are well off ones a doctor, ones a well I wont say because it would give away who they are I will say I have seen him on CNN several times, they both make alot of money. One family has a condo in FL both drive expensive cars BMWs and the like. They did get their families out but lost their expensive houses to flood waters, neither had flood ins. thought it was too expensive yet they could afford $40,000 cars and $175,000 condos.

Next LA, two of the families that lost out had realatives that ask them to come stay with them before the hurricans hit and offered to drive down and get them but they refused saying they had lived there all their lives and were not going to leave, yet when the floods hit they blamed Bush and the federal government for not being there to help them and are saying things like Bush wants us poor people to die he hates poor people and blacks. Neither of these familys had any type of Ins. at all because their houses were paid for.
The third family once again had a place to go but chose not to did not have flood Ins. but are at least not blameing anyone or asking for a government bailout.

The last family in TX, a middle class family they had flood Ins. even though it was a pain and they could have spent the money on other things, they got out of the area, went to see family in other states. They packed up the items that could not be replaced like pictures and such. While this has been a pain in the rear for them they are not destroyed by it.

While I only Know the stories of these six families and I do feel sorry for them. I do not understand how we the people of the rest of the country should have to pay for any of their losses. Each family through its own action or lack of action got itself in its situation good or bad.

With a $200,000,000 cleanup bill, $3.00 gas prices, and increased insurance premiums -- everyone that pays taxes, buyes gas, or pays insurance is affected. My gripe is that much of this could have been avoided with some planning.

Planning.....

Thats a joke. Homeland Security money was sent to all the states affected. Where did that money go? Some one put a bunch of it in their pockets and said "To hell with the people that live in my state!"
With Congress writting checks to say "We care the most" is going to leave us with some serious tax increases! Yes, those people lost everything, and will have to start over, but now my family is going to have to give up something in order to pay for it. I gave $$ and spent time loading trucks with bottled water to send down to 'em. Guess I need to tell congress to increase my taxes now!

Hot Springs, AR, not affected by much. Little rain/wind damage to the house when Rita arrived. The refugees are another story. One got arrested a few days ago for trying to recoup his loses with comitting 4 armed robberies.

leadcounsel, check your math

or count the zeroes.
Your post said two hundred million. About a 2/3 of a buck per man, woman and child in the USA.
Now try this. Two hundred billion. About 2/3 of a thousand bucks per man, woman and child in the USA.
Yes, math class is important.
