how many JUNKERS have you owned...

without a doubt, the worst shotgun I ever owned! The infamous and cheaply made Winchester 1400 Ranger. This one was a 20g and came with a 28" barrel and one extended factory choke. 75% of the gun was made of pot metal and plastic. Nice work Winchester, more FTF rounds than you can imagine.

Never liked Winchester shotguns anyway...

Uh oh. Now all the 1400 owners are going to tell us how great it was. No doubt there are some happy owners, but that was not the gun to end Winchester's semi auto woes. When I was in my teens they opened a Winchester range in my hometown, and they rented and sold Winchesters. They used to send 1200s and 1400s with issues back by the barrel full. Seriously, they had a 55 gallon drum lined with cardboard they would stack them in until they got enough to pack up and ship, which wasn't too long.
I only ever owned one that I considered junk; my first. A Mossberg bolt action 20 gauge with the adjustable choke. The source of my enduring hatred of bolt actions and adjustable chokes. It did cure my desire to go cheap at an early age.

I'm not going to say the 1400 is great as it is cheaply made. I was given a 20ga 1400 for my son to learn with. It has functioned quite reliably with Rem 7-1/2 shot hunting ammo. It does not like the Kent steel ammo that was given to me with the gun. I will say it's the softest shooting 20ga I've ever shot which made it great for my son to learn with. I also have a 12ga Mossberg bolt that was given to me & I can't stand to use.

I guess that most of my shotguns are junkers, but mine are "using" guns and I have very little attachment to them.

There's the Winchester Model 12, 20 gauge, that I got from a pawn shop. It has very little blueing left and sports a poly-choke. So far it's accounted for inumerable clay pigeons in the back pasture and fires everything I stuff into it.

Then there's my Winchester 1200 Ranger, a pump shotgun I got when I was pore-an-starvin'. It has accounted for tons of small game, rabbits, squirrels, ducks, and one deer that I recall. It fed a family of six during our pore-and-starvin' days and it looks like it. Again, it reliably shoots everything I stuff into the magazine. Never a glitch with it.

Then there's the Remington 870 that I've carried as a cruiser gun for almost two decades. It's got an 18 inch barrel with rifle sights and it was a constant companion during my patrol days. It still has the wood stock and I qualified with it last month. Of course, like the rest of my shotguns, it's all-beat-to-hell and gets cleaned twice a year.

One of these days I might like to get a nice Beretta or Browning double, something to take out at the range and show to the boys. Of course the problem is that I might treat it like a shotgun, and before long, it would be all-beat-to-hell.

Sigh.

right now its a winchester model 25, which is basically a model 12, that i cannot get to work correctly…at all. Its a terrific single shot though, among the best i've seen:mad:

The shotguns I've owned most wouldn't consider collectable or nice except for one.
- Bridge Black Prince (H&R made) .410 single shot, my first shot gun. Its in decent shape, probably worth $80 or so and that's only because it's so old

- Rossi Circuit Judge .410/.45 very fun to shoot

- Savage 24V 20 gauge/30-30 this gun is somewhat valuable

- Stoeger Condor 12 gauge o/u

- Marlin Goose Gun 12 gauge 3 foot barrel with a full choke and bolt action, pretty neat

- Mossburg 500 Slugster 12 gauge haven't shot it yet, my first pump

- Stevens 10 gauge single shot with a 3 foot barrel and full choke. Fun to shoot, but even with 3 1/2 chambers it's no where near as much recoil as everyone says.

None.....

not even the old Western Field ( probably sold by Gambles or Montgomery Wards in the 40's or early 50's ) ...bolt action shotgun ...in a 16ga ...that someone gave me when I was about 8 yrs old - in the 50's ( and I still have it ). Its not fancy ...but when I was a kid....I sure killed a lot of Ruff grouse with that little gun...

I shoot and use every gun I own...but I don't have much tolerance for junk ( and don't start picking on my plastic Benelli super sports again ...) ...!

Just one. A Victor Sarasqueta sidelock that was bought cheap and cost me a fortune to keep it running. Gave up and gave it away.

Worst shotgun I have ever owned bar-none was a 12 gauge 870 Wingmaster I purchased new in 2006... Gun never wanted to work... Fought Remington for approximately 4 years until they finally gave me a new gun after giving up on trying to fix it...

300WM, are you serious!!! An 870 Wingmaster...

Within the last couple of months I have purchased 6 shotguns, none of which I considered a keeper. Shotguns, in general sell cheap at the rural auctions I head to here in Hoosierlan. I then sell them to raise enough cash to buy keepers for myself.

For these Six ,
2 Mossberg 500's, a 12 and a 20 gauge, one with an extra slug barrel.
2 Escort Turkish 12 gauge pumps (short-barrel/long mag-tubes) flat Black finish great appearance, but dirt cheap,
A top break 16 gauge Iver Johnson single shot
A Chinese 12 gauge, external hammer Coach Gun,

I paid a total of $875 for the lot.

I don't consider any of these worth keeping. They aren't "Junk", but They will find new homes soon (3 already have). So this proves to me that "One Man's Trash, is another Man's Treasure" !!

I am glad to say I have never owned a junker, but I do own a shotgun that I don't care for, Browning Gold Hunter 3 1/2. Thing would double feed and then it was a PITA to fix. Called Browning and sent it back, it works great now but I personally don't care for it.

I had a 12 gauge Ithica/double barrel with a damascus twist. A piece of you know what if ever there was. I shot bird shot through the blasted thing for grins and something broke in the trigger mechanism. I took it to a gunsmith and he told me that he didn't have the part he needed to fix it, and it wasn't worth fixin in the first place. I put it in the trash can and somebody picked it up for scrap metal. Piece of crap that thing was :-)

my bread and butter is taking other peoples junkers and turning them into cash or a better gun than they ever thought it could be so tons of them.
