How macho are you with your P7?

I've read a number of threads about people complaining of their P7's heating up and how some don't complain about it at all. Personally, I have to put my P7M8 down after about 3 mags rapid fire, 5 mags if I want to end up in the burn unit. How many mags do you go through before having to put down your P7? (with or without gloves or bandaids).

Not macho at all

It takes about a box and a half (60 - 75 rounds or so) before I really have to switch to my other P7M8. If I alternate them every box of ammo, its no problem.

I'll second that & say 75-100 rounds. It varies depending on how quickly I put ammo through my M13 & also if I'm using +P (a little hotter earlier). With a band-aid or adhesive tape on the middle finger I will continue up to my usual of 100-150 rounds for the session. But I keep that trigger finger away from the trigger guard or else!

I can shoot 6-8 mags before I have to stop & reload. It does get hot, but i just don't touch those areas. The grip/trigger area are OK to handle.

My P7/PSP without the heat shield does get hotter though.

After about one box my M13 will get a little uncomfortable, depending on how quickly I shoot. I'm not very 'macho' with it, so I always bring several pistols to the range so I can let it cool for a spell.

P7 was designed with tactical ops in mind. In a pistol fight you are very unlikely to fire more then couple of magazines. If you need more, you should have brought a long gun!
The heating problem is not really a problem, but design peculiarity.
In order to house the gas delay system directly inside the dust cover, they had to divert the gasses stright fron the chamber down, right where your trigger finger is positioned. There is no way around it. The have minimized the burning issue when M8 model came out (plastic shield), but unless you really place a ceramic (or any other REAL theroinsulator) underneth this port, you can not do anything. Personally I bring more then one gun to the range, so I let it cool off.

when i carried my psp as a duty weapon, we would qualify on a course using 36-50 rounds. the only noticable problem with heat was during disassembly and cleaning.

when just shooting, the heat becomes a problem before i could get through 10 mags...so about 65-75 rounds

Over on the Cult of the P7 BB, we call'em "man fingers", not burn marks. After shooting at the range and seeing who can shoot the most rounds without making a face, we all get in our BMW's, and go back to the country club, where we play golf, and discuss which company does the best chrome job on the P7.

But when we aren't trying to test our pain endurance we just have Jeeves bring the 2nd gun out of the cooler.

Anyone know of a company that will cryogenicaly treat my gas chamber?

interested in knowing are you using the old P7..or the newer modified P7 with the heat shield and longer trigger guard?..

I shoot 4-6 magazines and then reload. I am never rapid firing, I try to hit what I am aiming at and don't see a need for rapid fire. I also don't practice magazines of double taps.

HK1:
I have an AB date coded P7M8. Went out yesterday and and shot it again, noted that multiple areas of the pistol do heat up with the exception of the heat shield. My fingers do go off the heat shield and thats probably where I have my heat problem. I'm thinking about putting large chromed exhaust pipes on my pistol (which auto supply store do you recommend). ;)

I can get off about 8 mags (50 shots total, one not full) then I switch to my next p7 and do another 50 shots and finally to the last p7. I find it takes about 3 p7's and about 25 mags to keep me cool on the range. I posted pictures of my "stable" on the cult of the P7 web site.
