How long to knock off the rust????

I haven't been able to shoot much for the past three or four months, money, illness, weather, you name it. During this time I also ignored my usual dry fire work as well.

I finally got out last week, I expected to have lost some edge but I flat out sucked...just like when I began shooting. Constantly low and left, SlOw on the draw, about the only skill that didn't suffer was my reloads.

I'm getting back into my dry-firing drills and work at home...just curious how long it has taken you guys to get back up to par after a layoff like I had.

Buy a Daisy 717 air pistol and use it as a "parlor gun". Dry fire is great, but it doesn't hurt to actually punch paper. 10 minutes three times a week can do wonders.

The 717 is really quite accurate, and there's a whole subculture out there of people who trick them out. Careful, they're addictive.

I stayed away from the range for years.

Overtime work and all.

And it will take several more months of shooting on a regular basis before I can be at least presentable on any shooting range.

I can hit paper at seven and ten yards but the twenty five yard mark is what I want to be good at.

It takes time but you just have to do it.

Get range or outdoor (where it's legal and safe) shooting.

Keep practice at home, dry firing with snap cap. It shouldn't take that long for you to get the rust off.

I've found that it's kinda like riding a bicycle, you never forget.

Having kids really put a damper on a number of years, thank God for every one of them.

It was almost humorous how quickly I got better with some serious competition.
