how long do u wear your gun in holster befor cleaning it?

just wondering how long u carry your pistol befor cleaning it? a day, 2 days, weeks? ive carried about 8 days in a row, and field stripped it to inspect it befor goin to the range and found the barrel was all full of lil fuzzy's and dust specs. what do you all recomend?
 
I clean out fuzzy stuf with Q-tips.

I clean infreqently...unless I shoot it. I'd say once in three montes is about my schedual, seems to work for me. Course' I'm LAAZZYY
 
Once a month, or every 200 rounds, which ever comes first. My leather IWB holster fits my pistol pretty good, so the only navel lint is on the hammer, below the spur. That area is tight enough that none of it gets inside the gun.
 
Most guns are easy to break down. each night before putting it away I would take out the barrel and see how much "fuzzy" stuff is in there. If there is a good bit I might run a patch with oil in the barrel. Other then that I would clean it as offten as you do your bedside or glove box gun. I try to get to the range at least once a week. I always bring my carry gun (Glock 30) with me to the range and shoot off 1 or 2 clips. So mine gets cleaned weekly.

Range sessions bi-weekly(50 to 100rds). Wipe down with treated cloth after every session. Field strip every other Sunday.
Gun is Ruger stainless sp101 357mag. My sigp239 would get the same treatment IF it was my daily carry gun, due to certain conditions I'm under it only gets carried 50% of the time.
Works for me.:cool:

thanx all for the reply's. thats more or less what i figured. i clean my pistol fully usually within an hour after shooting (would like to shoot once a week but it doesnt always happen)
 
Get a Glock, then you dont have to worry about cleaning it. :D

Actually, I only clean if I go to the range, so maybe 4 or 5 times a month. I have gone 2 months after shooting without cleaning my G30 then went shooting again and didn't have any problems.

I will sometimes run a swab through my barrel to clean out gunk but I usually let the FMJ's do that for me. ;)
 
just a thought on the dust problem. You've seen the "canned air" in the computer shops...I use that stuff every evening. Just remove the mag, lock the slide open,and give it a few puffs. I go in through the ejection port,then down through the mag well. then I blow out all my carry mags...they collect dust pretty bad too. One time a week I'll strip it down do the normal clean up it needs. Seems to be enough.
