How good is the TP9SA?

I love turkish firearms and i'm looking to add something to the handgun stable.

I'll start by saying I have an XD service that i've done trigger work to and is very light although reset is garbage. Stock I'd consider the XD trigger to be pretty terrible.

I shoot it occasionally but don't really have a purpose for it anymore.

But to the point I bought the XD9 service brand new for 349.99 with the essentials package(still hovers around the same price). Is the TP9SA as good or better than an XD9 at the same price point?

Would you consider it an option for competition in production class IDPA/USPSA? This would be informal local competition as I know the gun probably isn't on the approved list.

I consider Canik products to be top notch. I have a worked over Canik CZ75 clone and its the best shooter I own.

I bought one last October and have absolutely no regrets. The trigger is light (5 lbs?), the reset has a very positive audible click and is also very short. The gun is made well and holds a boatload of ammo (18+1 and yes getting that last one in the mag is an epic struggle but doable).

The best thing about this gun is the price. I bought it for $330 plus the FFL fee and it is seriously better than my Glock G17. No looking back, it's a great gun.

for a range gun or a truck gun, in experienced hands, it's the best value under $550. period.

the SF does away with the decocker on the SA model, which seems like a better idea, but i do wish they'd added a manual safety to the SF.

i will not carry mine condition 1

The best gun under $400 hands down bar none. My girlfriend has one and I sometimes prefer to shoot it over my CZ p09 haha...when the feeling strikes that is

I owned a Gen 1 TP9 for a couple years, and have no complaints. It was fun to shoot, problem-free and quite the conversation-starter to boot. The decocker was odd for sure, but other than that, I (and anyone who tried it) took to the TP9 quickly. The only down side was the cost of mags. They are made by Mec-Gar, but were only available through Century Arms, at least that was the case at the time. Anyway, I sold my TP9 to a co-worker, and he shot that thing like an old pro.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend one, especially given the improvements of the new version.

I'm going to throw the opinion out that if the xd9 was not good enough for you, that you will won't be satisfied by the tp9.

The xd9 has a decent trigger, good accuracy and is a nice package for $350-$600 striker fired gun.

I've not shot an xd9, but I love my tp9sa. A lot. It fits me well and the trigger is very similar to my ppq, if not a bit better. Very short, audible reset. 100% reliable as well.

Mind posting a side by side of your TP9SA and PPQ?

I had both at the same time. It seems odd to me that you found the TP9SA trigger better as the TP9SA has a heavier break.

side by side review? Or just a picture? I can take a pic tomorrow. Any particular perspective?

As far as review, I have only had both guns a few weeks and three trips to the range. The short and sweet is that the Walther is a bit better on fit and finish, but not by as much as I expected. The only place it shows is inside the slide where there are a few tool marks left on the Turkish gun with none on the German. The initial take up on the trigger of the tp9sa is a tiny bit rougher than the Walther, but the break and reset feel very similar on both.

Both guns fit my hands well and I have very, very short fingers so many guns are out for me. Glock 17 no way. Glock 19 - Gen 4 only. Most DA/SA guns are a no go in DA for me, so these two striker fired guns have manageable trigger reach for me.

Accuracy has been a wash. One outing I will think the tp9sa is better and the next trip the Walther impresses.

The decocker thing doesn't bother me. It is not going to be activated by mistake and I can disable it in 5 minutes if I wanted to. Both are great guns and if I had to get rid of one I would have a tough time deciding.

Just together would be fine.

You said the TP9SA trigger was better. But just now, you said the PPQ is better....

I am not calling you a liar. I have owned both at the same time (and a P99 and TP9--all the same time) and there is just no way the TP9SA has a "better" trigger. Even as you just followed up with yourself, the TP9SA take up is rougher and feels more plastic.

They're both good. The grit in take up is slight and getting better the more I shoot it. That doesn't really bother me or affect my accuracy though. The break and reset being similar is what matters to me, so for me, the triggers are both equally good and better than my gen 4 g19 or my m&p pro or shield.

Before I retired at the end of last year, I couldn't wait to start carrying my Hk VP9 as my primary carry, my G43 as my secondary to that and then my TP9SA as a night stand and/or go-bag weapon since I was freed from agency policy of .40 and .380 only.

Well, as much as I like the Hk, it seems to be rarely carried and the Canik and Glock seem to duke it out for being carried most.

Because of this, I'm selling the Hk along with my former duty weapon-a G23 gen 4 and Ruger SR-556 piston AR to downsize my small arsenal since I don't like my guns sitting around not being used.

The Canik will be my full size carry and the G43 will be with me when not carrying it. It has been very reliable and accurate, and I feel confident while carrying it.

The Canik isn't perfect but the price and great trigger is what make it stand out for me. Also, I'm not against the decocker but I'd wait for the TP9SF only because it has a dovetailed front site. The other changes are nice but not over the top for me.

For those who are interested in purchasing the TP9-SF. I found only 1 dealer who has them. prepper gun shop in No. Dakota I sold my TP9 sa only thinking I could purchase a SF model , wrong no one has them but prepper gun shop. I just ordered mine today $ 349. plus shipping , should be here Friday. As I was talking to them 12 more came in.:)

ps I am in no way associated with Prepper's just passing on some info.

Mine has been absolutely great. Never thought I would get so much value out of a $350 handgun but it rocks. The trigger is incredible for a stock striker fired gun, not too much take up, relatively light pull weight, clean break, and a short audible and tactile reset. It has fed crappy Tula ball ammo, various brass FMJ, and Federal 124gr HSTs all without so much as a hiccup.

My only beef with it is the sights. They come with the standard three dots but they add a little line in between the two rear dots to help line up the front, problem is that line scratched off easily so now I'm left with the three dot and aftermarket sights are nonexistent.

Actually there really is no aftermarket for this pistol which kind of sucks but it does fit and lock in an M&P SERPA holster so that's typically how I carry it, under a jacket in said holster.

Other than the lack of aftermarket support it has been **dollar for dollar** the best handgun I have ever owned.

Walther P99 sights are reported to work. In fact in the amazon reviews for P99 night sights, there were a couple of people who stated that they worked perfectly in their TP9SA.
