I know nothing about AKs. Today I saw a Romanian (Romarms, I think) AK chambered in .223 in a gun store today. Price is about $360, the gun is used. It has a 30 rnd magazine, and plastic pistol grip (no thumbhole).

How's the reliablity and price? Anything else I should know? Thanks.

I got my AK in 7.62x39. it was a romanian one and I got it new with a 10 rd mag and a 30 rd. for 300 bucks... Just my opinion but Id do a little shopping around before making that purchase.

I have a couple of the Romanian 7.62x39 AKs (SAR-1s) that I like a lot. I've noticed that there don't seem to be too many in that caliber around these days. They were going for around $300 or so (dealer cost) from places like AIM Surplus (www.aimsurplus.com). I think the .223 versions are still avaialable and go for less. The price you mentioned seems a little high. I think you should be able to get a .223 SAR-2 (or was it SAR-3?) for under $300. Check AIM Surplus to get an idea of dealer cost (or just order from them if you know an FFL holder who will do it for you). I don't know how well the .223 versions work, or how easy it is to find magazines for them.
