How does buying from Budsgunshop or galleryofguns work?

I'm looking for a hard to find rifle that I never see in stock at the LGS's or at the gun show.

If I order from one of these online outfits, how does it work?

I pay them, they ship to my FFL and that's it?

I'm not sure about Gallery of Guns I've only glanced at their site.

I have bought a couple of guns from Bud's though. You just pay for it and they ship it to your FFL, you pay your FFL their fee, they do the paperwork and background check.

Regarding Bud's, they have a lot of FFLs on file already. When you buy, you can select from their list of FFLs in your area, so it makes things pretty simple.

Don't know about Gallery of Guns, so can't say.

I live an hour away from Bud's so I just buy it online an pick it up in the store.

I wish they would credit their shipping savings for state sales tax, but I think they drop ship most of their guns (the call center number is somewhere in the Northeast) so I guess I'm still paying shipping to the store.

Has anyone ever noticed where the gun was mailed from to their FFL? Was it KY or somewhere else?

I've used Gallery of Guns. You select a gun you're interested in buying and enter your zip code. Several options for local dealers will be provided. You pick the one you want to buy from and pay a deposit online then the gun is shipped to the dealer you selected. When it arrives the dealer gives you a phone call, you go to the dealer, do the background check paperwork, and pay the remainder of the cost. I bought a Kel-Tec P11 about three weeks ago, and the whole process only took about 2 days.

I've bought from both, Bud's was good...had my local dealer's FFL on file and was very easy. Bud's can have some great prices.
Gallery of Guns, aka Davidsons, is a great tool. I've bought several firearms through the site and it's painless, fast, and depending on the locals that participate a good deal. Over the last couple of years the number of local shops and dealers in my area that work with them has more than doubled making the pricing very competitive. But's that can also be handicap as well, if only a couple of folks in your area are on their site, prices might not be competitive with other online dealers.

I've bought many rifles and handguns from Bud's over the years and at one time (gad!) had their GE Financial credit card which was dangerous. :D
They are a great company to deal with.

Contacted one of the galleryofguns FFL's Saturday and got response back today. Think this is easier than trying to get my regular LGS to find guns for me.

Are you talking Davidson's Gallery of Guns ?? IF you are, they guarantee the dealer and you that if you don't like it or anything is wrong, they'll take it back or replace it with no questions asked.

Yes. That's good to hear. That's part of the reason I haven't bought anything on gunbroker. Lots of sellers have a "no returns" policy.

Buds is a FFL gun dealer/retail tha you buy from that ships to your ffl dealer/retail for final paper work.

Davidsons is a distributor that you select which ffl dealer/retail you want to purchase it from.

Essentially, they partner with your local shop on the sale. I like that. I think it supports your local LGS & economy more than just a simple transfer.

They also have an excelllent warrenty policy. Life time replacement. My LGS makes sure to remind me of that several times before I leave the store. (both times). Cant beat that.

Ultimately though... you have a greater selection on gunbroker. Its like e-bay - both in good and bad ways.

Where to go?

Sorry to put a fork in your post...but I did want to ask anyone out there who they might recommend as a good and reputable online dealer.....I'm preparing to buy both a new rifle (CZ455 Lux) and pistol (Ruger 22/45 Hunter) as soon as Uncle Sam sends my tax return.....my local dealers aren't big CZ fans and the Ruger (Model 10132) has been difficult to find...so I thought I'd buy online.

I was going to use Bud's Gun Shop (since they continually pop up on Google and do have a good rating there) - but I have recently run across some less than complimentary posts about them online.

I have gotten some excellent information and assistance here (on the Firing Line) in the past...and thought I might ask some opinions on this.

Thanks!
