How do you secure your pistols?

Any advise on pistol safes/lockboxes, etc.? I've considered the "Gunvault" which is supposed to provide quick access as well as a traditional safe with heavy bolts and a combination lock. So far I'm unable to reconcile security vs. access. Help! and Thanks!

Depends on how many guns you have. I have a press-button gun-safe under the bed and a full-size office safe in another room.

Greetings; It also depends on the level of
security desired? For me, easy access for
my personal well being, is a MUST! :D On the flip side, I use security doors and bars to
keep 'em out of the hands of perp's, crook's,
and the criminal element that exist in all
communities. :) And you will NEVER find me
with one, out of arm's reach!!! As they

was the then Vice President, that killed Alexander Hamilton on July 11th, 1804 somewhere in New Jersey; with a duelling pistol. :(

Lucky Devil, I think that you answered your own question and Ledbetter put the icing on the cake. I have a gunvault type security box mounted under my bed and in a couple of other locations for my home defense firearms with the rest of them in a 600-pound (562 to be exact) safe in another part of the house.

I keep most of mine in a full-sized gun safe, but I also keep a short-barreled 12Ga and an old S&W 9mm out of the safe (more accessible) with combination trigger locks installed.

I like the combination locks that have rolling wheels that click slightly for each number, stop at zero, and let you set the combination. They aren't perfect, and I'd hate to have to do it under stress, but I can open these in the dark if I have to.

I used to use a trigger "lock" that only required a firm push and twist motion to remove (like a child proof cap). This was faster to remove. I also kept the magazine out of the gun and no round in the chamber. But as my son got older, and more kids were around the house, I switched to real locks.

I keep the guns under double lock. That is, trigger locks on everything inside locked storage. Everything is locked that isn't under my direct control. And, the house itself had a security system.

Lately, I've been having another fantasy. I got this big ole dog that just raises h*ll when strangers are around. I keep her crated during the day when I'm at work. I've been thinking about building a false floor inside the crate, sort of a platform her bed/pillow would rest on. Underneath the platform but inside the crate, store the handguns. "Yeah, you want them? You stick your hand in there and try to get them."

It might just work, providing they don't have a big juicy steak available as an distraction.

I think too much.

I bought a small safe (inside is probably 13" x 10" x 10"). It uses a combination and a key.

Note that I don't plan to use my guns for self defense. I used mine mainly for storing bolts from rifles and handguns. The safe is high quality enough to keep the kiddies out, which is what I wanted.

It won't keep out a pro, and it doesn't offer fast access. But those are my (perceived :)) needs.
