I have been lookng at Stoeger Shotguns and when talking to people, I have heard it pronounced differently. I have heard "Steeger" as well as "Stowger" as well as others. Just curious!

i like the other type of double barreled shotguns

Hammer, that's the way I pronounce it and what I have heard mostly but this in a gun shop, a customer, pronounced it "Steeger".

According to my German class, it would be "shterger". In German, the "oe" is usually written as o with 2 dots over it, called umlaut. It is pronounced as "er".

There actually isn't an "r" in the correct pronunciation, it's more of a guttural sound kind of like you're puking and making a short "u" sound at the same time. You make it in the back of your throat saying "uuh" and raising your tongue a little while clenching your throat muscles. There's no real way to type the sound, you have to hear someone say it. I guess the closest you could type it would be "shtuhgehr".

Well it maybe inexpensive (not cheap) just ask the other hunters as me and my 20 ga. condor (stow-ger) was waiting for them to get their limit of dove, and I'm not that good of a shot (but getting better). I have shot over 500 rounds without a problem.

Dreadnought, My daughter took German when she was in high school and her German class went to Germany on an exchange program. In turn a bunch of German kids came over the following semester and we had a girl stay with us. I did hear a lot of those "gutteral" sounds and umlauts. I figured that Stoeger originated as a German name and wasn't sure if it had any of those German like syllables when you say it correctly. Thanks everyone for your input.
All that being said; Duckmart stated what I have heard about Stoegers, that they were inexpensive but very decent guns. I haven't shot one myself nor do I know anyone that has one but I think I will make the plunge and get myself one of their coachguns.

those pesky germans and their hard to pronounce names:rolleyes:

and all of you were pronouncing my name as mass:D

*shrug*. It's like HK... if you're going to hack up dinner trying to get your tongue moving right for a foreign language just skip it.

I say stow-ger, like stogie. The long o. And I refer to HK as "HK" as well :)

Although I did teach myself how to (almost) properly say "Czeska brojovka, uhersky brod"... that's a fan thing.
