Just go to FAQ. There's a whole section on them. That's the beginning. Let me know in the Range House if you want to get fancier.

Any time you post somthing, over to the left of the window that you type in is a link entitled "Smiles Legend" -- click on it! Another window will come up showing you the different smileys. If you want , then type a ":" followed by a ")". If you want , then type the word "eek" with a ":" on the left and on the right of it. Good luck, FUD.

You guys do things the hard way. I just use the and keys on top of my keyboard. What? You don't have those? They are right next to ¼, ½, ¾, and ¢. You guys must have been jipped! No wonder computers have been coming down in price!
