How do you get an FFL?

ATF's website should have the info, but they're not known for their reliability.

You might try asking in Legal/Political.

Hi, DW,

If you are talking about a dealer's license, not a collector's or gunsmith's license, the first thing to do is decide if you want to go into business. BATF today will not issue licenses to people setting up in their basements just to get wholesale prices on guns for themselves and their friends. You do not need to have a full time business, but you need to have a business in a properly zoned area and with a business premises.

If you decide to set up a business, check local laws and business locations and costs. Check competition to see if the area can support another gun store. Check political climate. For example, in some cities, a gun store may be legal but every possible roadblock will be thrown in your way and you will get your license in 300 years or so.

If all seems good, and you have the temperament to listen to gripes and complaints for 10 hours a day and an independent income to support you and your family, go for it, and good luck.

Jim
