How do you carry the message?

1) I bought and display this sign in my shop at home... I point it out to all who will listen and discuss our current POTUS and the fight many of us are waging against his regime as it relates to the 2nd amendment

2) I write and call my state representatives as legislation is crafted related to firearms

Let's hear from others... How do you all support our 2A rights?

This is what our POTUS called us...

As to how do I support the second amendment I always do the right thing and don't sit and worry about what "they" are going to do to me . I am involved in politics up to my ears pushing good folks to get out and vote and pulling for the most conservative cadidates not because I like politicts but because I care enough to be involved and not just complain . I support the NRA because they have the time and know how to do this kind of work and I do not . This is not a easy fight and it will never be over but we can keep the ones that would like to see the U.S citizen unarmed . Its not about safty its about big Government control over its Subjects .

It's really a sign for the choir - no offense. Someone who is undecided won't be moved by the message.

I find rational discussion of how you have to defend yourself in this world is the best entry into the discussion.

I have been using the case of the L'ecole Polytechnique

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/École_Polytechnique_massacre

Faced with that, are you a man who would leave? Or would you lead th the suicide charge with an IPAD or number two pencil. Or would you prefer to have someone who knows what to do and could stop the threat.

If you are a woman - would like to see the men go and then you can charge with a pencil, IPAD or the crap in your purse (no gun - huh?).

I took down a man saying campus carry was a bad thing by asking him what he would do if that happened in the room we were in. Leave or charge with his phone.

Vote.

End of story both in elections and with your dollar. If you dont support people and companies that are anti 2A it also slows them down in their fight.

if you want to carry the message you might not want to start with opening up admitting to be exactly what you say the POTUS wrongfully described.

I'm not a fan of advertizing but I kinda like the sign that says you wont defend your neighbor who wants to ban guns...

neighbor wants to ban guns sign

I try desperately to plug the holes in the dyke created by signs like that.

As previously stated, that sign and similar messages are for the choir. They alienate any moderates. They are good to toss around here with the understanding the only people here in significant numbers are almost certainly firmly entrenched in one camp or the other. To the general population it does more damage than good. I post a great many things here I don't believe firmly. May be ideas I haven't fully formed or things I am questioning. Things I wouldn't bring up to a neutral crowd.

You think "clinging to religion" is offensive to most Americans? Only about 20% of Americans regularly attend church. I find it hard to believe very many people who fail to attend on a weekly basis care all that much about their religion.

The key is to support all rights of citizens... Even if you don't agree to those rights.... Point out who's next.

Say you hate cigarettes... Don't jump on the cigarette banning band wagon, while clinging to your guns with cold dead hands.

This happens often, especially with 2nd amendment supporters....

New York's soda ban, and portland smoking ban becomes Texas's brisket ban,
And Washington state's fireplace ban...

I've heard people say.. " I don't do xxxx and yyyyy activities so I've got nothing to loose"....yes you do

I tend to focus Second Amendment discussions on personal freedom and not so much on self defense. Many folks I run into will never carry a gun, so the self defense argument carries little weight with them. I’ve been pleasantly surprised at the number of people who respond positively to this approach. As a society we need to learn to accept the freedoms that our Constitution provides even when we may not agree with the actual behavior itself.

Yes they are talking about banning fireplaces wood burning stoves and the likes

Of course it could be oregon
I live on the Columbia river and I get my news from both states, and by the time I watch the news, I've had a touch of captain Morgan

Fire ownership is truly threatend , I cant count the times iv heard shooters say " they ca'nt do that " when discussing possible laws and ordanances that will infringe own our right to freely own firearms . This could become a ugly fight . I am sometimes amazed at so many voters/shooters that have not heard some of the promises made to certain voteing blocks to change the way the U.S public deals with private firearm ownership . I would ask anyone that cares enough to carry a message to become informed and let others know what the real threats are .

I try to educate myself on current events. Only comment on things I am familiar with and show respect to the people I'm talking to. I don't look down on people with differing political views or their chosen way of life. I also try to be as polite and helpful as I can.

I do these things because A) It's part of being a decent human being and B) because when people find out that I own guns, they are less likely to think that I'm a right wing gun nut who isn't to be trusted with firearms.

Then when the conversation of gun rights comes up, I am perceived (I hope) as a much more credible person to listen to than what is currently portrayed on tv as the typical gun owner.

Good points when talking to fence sitters . When discussing with shooters I have noticed that you either run into thoes that are active in politics and are up to the fight or thoes that are like " nothing will change " when all around them it already has . The later need a little fire breathing speach the former are already in gear and its preaching to the choir .
When conversing to the enemy's of Freedom then its in thier face . Jab them with a finger and let them know Shall not be infringed .
There is not as many fence sitters out there as some think . Big Gov does its job well when it comes to misinformation .

Psalm7 is correct... Firearm ownership is threatened, people want them gone...

Most gun owners puff up and "they can't do that and this"... And yet they chip away at us with gun laws.... Limit this and that bits at a time...
The public think guns are bad, so why not limit magazine sizes...
The hunter says.... "No one needs more thanxxx rounds" and "you can't hunt with an AR"

And gun owners say "I've got nothing to hide, I had a background check" and "I'll register my rifles, I got nothing to hide"

And another says "10rd magazines will work for self defense"
Then someone agrees to 8
Then 6

Everyone and their brother calls green tip "penetrator" ammo

The atmosphere is better now for gun owners than it has been in my lifetime. The public is much more accepting of concealed carry, and self defense as they are implemented more and more.

Politicians will do what they do, and its great to let them know what you want, but ultimately your job is to sway the public into your way of thinking. The majority of the people are somewhere in between the anti's and the pro 2A people. the best way to influence these people is by setting a good example of being a caring, responsible, law abiding gun owner. Be respectful of those on the fence. Portray yourself as a responsible adult, and DO NOT play into the stereotypes and be careful what you post on Youtube.

There are those antis who will not be swayed, and if you offend them, nothing will be lost, but when you go out to offend antis, and also offend those whose minds are not made up, you do us all great disservice. The best way to lose those rights we have are to be an obnoxious jerk who gets joy out of offending people with them. If you want to wear camo to the range and practice tactical maneauvers, thats great. If you put on your camo, and carry a bunch of loaded long arms into a coffee shop with your buddies, all you do is anger the same people who support your right to be on the range.

Make your rallies respectable and dignified. Make them comfortable for those who are not yet convinced.

Finally, take somebody to a range who doesn't shoot. Learning to operate one, takes the fear and mystery away.

True stuff,

When I was younger, I could not have carried concealed.
Now I can carry in a good chunk of the country...
Eventually voters in "bad" places will take notice "good" places

It's the stereotypes that are the most damaging... And when stereotypical gun owner makes a mistake, the media rides it for what it's worth... The bumper stickers, hats, t-shirts don't help really...

I've taken many people shooting in the past that had never done it before...

Support everyone's rights, not just the 2nd amendment
Most can't interpret the 2nd anyway... The scotus clarified that the people means individuals and not militia lol....any time the framers used people they meant people they meant people lol
