How do you become a CCW instructor? (NV)

I am often approached by folks to teach them how to use guns, and I really like doing it, so why not make a little side money?
Do you need insurance (say if one of your students kills someone, can you be sued? successfully?)
I'm a life member NRA do they offer courses?
Any guidance (from ccw instructors) appreciated.

I want to take training for this as well. Different state, though. Now that I am retired, I find this may be the perfect pastime. I'm going to start checking for classes in this area.

Do you hold a CWP? If so, ask the instructor you took the course from. Check the local governing body's laws for CWP Instructor.

I would also suggest a good lawyer writing up a release or waiver for any of your srudents to sign. Some form of insurance may be a good idea too.

It really is too bad that we have to think like this. But that is what society is now a days. A lot of people don't want to accept responsibility for their actions but prefer to pass the buck via a lawyer if something bad happens.

I am in NC and I had to take the NRA Handgun Instructors class. Now I am on the waiting list for the states "Laws governing the use of Deadly Force". After that I submit an app to the state and wait for them to send my stuff back.

About insurance, whether you can be sued successfully is beside the point. You can get sued. You may well be able to prevail. The suit against you may be a crock. But even if the suit against you is utter nonsense, it can cost you $10,000, $20,000, $30,000 or more in legal fees to ultimately get clear of it.

That's the reason to have insurance. The insurance will cover defense costs, even when the suit against you is bogus.

Insurance is available through the NRA for NRA certified instructors.

You asked about CCW courses--isn't that what the new NRA Protection Outside the Home is about? Check that out to start.

I'd also suggest that you consider working under someone who's already in the business. That way you can learn about the formalities of running CCW training as a business, state requirements, liability insurance, etc.
