How do we get out of this mess?

As far as I can tell, there are only a couple of decent ways out of this hole we're digging for ourselves (meaning the nation, not TFL ;))

1. Al Gore concedes the election. He would be a hero, a martyr for his cause. Bush would make some comment re: "We will do our best to address the needs of your voters and yap yap yap" and we could move on. Gore could ask his rabble to support the president, and Bush could show everybody just how strong a 'coalition-builder' he really is.

Even if Bush conceded, it would be better (IMHO) than dragging this thing into the courts and further dividing the nation and wrecking what little dignity we still have. I would hate to see us whining and clawing like the Gore camp is now. Even Nixon let Kennedy have it w/o going to court over Cook county. Although if Bush conceded, I don't see that restraining the Gore machine any...

2. On the 17th, when all the absentee ballots arrive, GW has not only the electoral college, but the popular vote as well. This would appear to be very possible still. Then the Gore camp has to litigate without the "fighting for the will of the people" BS, right out in the open where they can be exposed as power-hungry tenacious lawyer punks.

3. ? I have no other options on the radar screen right now. Every other scenario I come up with is a disaster any way you look at it.

Any ideas?
