I keep hearing about 'democracy' and the threat that Bush's election poses to 'democracy' in America. I just want to scream!!
The irony is that the reaction of the "democracy must prevail" crowd during this election is EXACTLY what the founders wanted to avoid when they founded a REPUBLIC!! The 'will of the people' does not (or should not, anyway) supercede the rule of law (the true meaning of the term, not the Clintonized definition). When that happens, it really is the beginning of the end (a lesson the Florida Supremes need to learn).
If we can't even agree on the form of gubmint we're under, then there's a serious Reality Gap in this country. The other side is convinced they can change reality through some kind of induced mass delusion ("repeat the lie often enough" strategy). It seems to be working for the most part, but every once in a while, the good guys win one.
Sorry to just vent, but I have yet to hear even ONE talking head point out that this is NOT a democracy, let alone suggest that a democracy is, in actuality, a nightmare form of gubmint.
