How do I quiet the 5 Star Speed Loader

One of the drawbacks of owning the 5 Star Speed Loaders is the jingling that you get when you carry them in your pocket. While this seems festive this time of year, I want to make these quiet. Any ideas?

I'm wondering if it's worth jamming a cotton ball into the center of the loader and just pulling it out when I need to reload.

I wouldn't do the cotton ball thing. Sounds like a bad idea.

I use the Safariland Comp I and II's. They're quiet.

Then theres always Speed Strips.

I wouldn't think the "cotton ball fix" would be a good idea either . . especially in a stressful situation if you needed to reload. Have you given any thought to an on the belt pouch or is that out of the question?

I carry OWB in my situation with a shirt-tail out or a coat over. I have tried speed loaders OWB but I don't like the bulkiness of them. I have gone back to the old style "drop pouch" and much prefer that. I just don't like carrying things in my pockets as I usually wear jeans and have enough junk in them as it is.

Some will "poo poo" the drop pouch as old fashioned and "slow" but with practice, I can quikly eject the cylinder full of spent casings on my Smith Model 36 and get it reloaded. In 99.9% of a SD situation . . . if I can't do it with the 5 in my 36 . . . it's not going to end well anyway.

AS suggested, you might try another brand to see how it works out for you. :)

The belt carriers I have and used to use are the Safariland carriers like this.....

They place the loader on top of the belt, with half the rounds in front, half behind, instead of all in front of it. They ride much flatter and work well. Straddling the belt takes any play that might occur out of the rounds too.

Those are neat.
They're called the split six pouch and retail under $20.
Doesn't the part on the inside of the belt bother you, though?

No, never really bothered me. Like anything else, once you get used to them being there, you really dont notice them.

I put my rounds in a speed strip, then use the dump pouch to carry the strip so its facing the correct way and in the\e same spot when I want it. Sometimes, carrying a speed strip in my pocket, it get's lost in there.

I used to carry my speed strips in the watch pocket. My wife used to find them in the wash all the time too. :)

They all still fired too, when I shot them in practice.

This is another version of the "3-in, 3-out" design. They neither make noise nor gouge the Dunlopp.;)

HKS makes 2 versions of the speedloaders, (for my .357 DW, or the S&W K-frame) The "10" which "jiggles" or the "10A" which doesn't.

Unfortunately they are both the "push & twist" design.

I never liked speed loaders in my pocket. Always seemed like there was a really good chance they would get foreign objects entangled.

The speed strips were a little bit slower for me, but much more reliable.
