How did The History Channel manage to get this clown

Because your average couch potato thinks he's a highly decorated veteran of the raid on Tokyo.

Almost as bad as when he strolled out into the deck of the USS Hornet in the movie "Pearl Harbor", pretending to be Jimmy Doolittle. Of course, by then I had lost all interest in this WW2 meets MTV pseudo-epic. Not even Katie Beckinsale could save it.

I'm not sure the History Channel is pro- or anti- anything, except history. There's an almost pathological need on the boards to know the stance of everybody and everything vis a vis the Right to Keep and Bear Arms that I sometimes find amusing: "Is this actor pro-RKBA? What about that corporation, is it pro-RKBA? How about that tree over there? Is that a pro-RKBA tree?"

More to the point, I'd say THC is pro-making-money, and not much else. Heck, that's one of the best thing about the capitalist system -- it helps a nation full of people who under ordinary circumstances wouldn't speak to each other still achieve goals in concert.

Now that said, given the THC audience makeup, I would say that selecting Baldwin as spokesman was a colossally bad business decision. Yech!

I saw a commercial for this awhile ago, and my first thought was something along the lines of "Is this some sort of sick joke?"

I dunno about you folks, but this describes me perfectly. It can be something totally and completely unrelated to guns at all, and the first thought into my mind will be... are they pro-RKBA? In fact, I get ribbed about it occasionally. If I make a comment about disliking something or particularly someone (especially in Hollywood), I get a "Why, are they against guns?" back at me. :p

Tamara and Kaylee made my point far better than I did. they got Baldwin because he has a recognizable name, not because of his politics.

Lol - I hope you're not actually correct, but sadly, you may be. Yup, some of us are obsessed about voting with our dollars to help the RKBA, and some buy S&W. :)

Sad, though, that history gets into the minds of people through popular entertainment rather than valid research. I read a while back that they are thinking of making a movie portraying Hannibal (the guy from Carthage) with Denzel Washington -- although the real Hannibal was a tall, pale white guy whose family was originally from Syria (prior to the Islamic/Arab invasions the Egyptians portrayed the Syrians with characteristics that looked totally European).

Dolittle was portrayed as admired by men fighting in the Pacific in "Pearl Harbor" yet according to my father the average guy in the Pacific thought Dolittle was hardly deserving of honor. Can't verify that, but if true, and the vast majority of WW2 vets are dead in the next 10 - 20 years then...
