How comftorble are you with a smmothbore shotgun and slugs for deer

I was just wondering what kind of accuracy do yo you get with your smmotbore shotguns loaded with rifled slugs. To what distance are you comftorble that you can take an ethical shot at deer with bead sights and a smooth bore barell. This year I shot a doe at 60 yards with my 1187 loaded with brenneke kos. Personally I wouldnt take a shot at a deer more than 70 yards away. What about you guys what distance are you comftorble using bead sights and slugs on deer.

PS What foster slugs do you like I love my Brennekes.:) :)

Thanks

It depends on how accurate your gun is along with your ability to shoot. I had a Ithaca Deerslayer (old model w/smoothbore) that would shoot most slugs into 5 to 6 inches at 100 yards ( some less) which was pretty good at the time. I felt reasonably comfortable shooting at this range as long as I had some kind of rest or support for the gun. In actuality, the furthest shot I ever took was around 80 yards on a 8 pointer. Oh, yes, I hit him and he went 70 yards or so before he went down. I now have an Ithaca Deerslayer II that will put a lot of the sabots into 2 inches or under at the same 100 yards. With a lot of the newer sabots that have extended ranges I would feel it would be possible to take game at up to 200 yards. Personally, I will still try to limit my shots to 100 +/- yards in spite of what the advertising for the slugs might be. I guess my bottom line is, if a deer is more than 100 yards away, I should be able to get closer and take a better shot with less risk of wounding him.
