How can I remove the floorplace from a 10rd Glock magazine?

I have a G17 magazine that I'd like to clean. Tried to depress the tab in the floorplate and found that I couldn't squeeze the sides enough to make the tabs in the mag body to clear the grooves in the baseplate.

Does this mean that there's no way to maintain it or that I am not doing it right?

I know this isn`t going to sound professional, but I ran into the same problem:
Take an object like a wooden chopstick( or anything similar that will be semi-giving to plastic so you don`t damage your floorplate)
and put it into the hole in the baseplate as it presses in the button catch.
Now as you press the sides in on the magazine, keeping the chopstick straight up and down, press the chopstick with your thumb right at the mag base.
Press it HARD !
It will come off without hurting your magazine( little tabs ), or the baseplate.
After you have taken it off a couple of times, it will get easier to do as the tabs wear in, they are only an "extra" ...

Good Luck,
Howard

Here's a hint: IIRC- Don't waster your efforts trying squeeze the sides of the mag. That's only for bases that don't have the button. ;)

Pay attention to inserting your "tool" far enough down (1-2"), and levering it (pushing the base out) against the inside to start the movement (about 1/4")

Good luck, Mr. Phelps. :) :)

the way i use i find to be the easiest but its hard to explain without pictures so i hope you can follow.

take a glock tool or similarly sized metal rod and push it into the hole in the bottom of the grip. push it down about 1/2" moving the inner spacer out of the way. then slide the glock tool towards the front of the mag and move it up against the front wall on the inside of the mag. move the glock tool a little up the front wall and push forward. the baseplate will move forward about half way off the mag and then just push it off the rest of the way.

you don't need to worry about squeezing in on the sides of the mag at all.
