How are Maverick shotguns?

I've never owned one, but I hear more positive than negative. Maverick Arms is owned by Mossberg and are assembled in Eagle Pass Texas. I used to live about a mile from their plant.....Essex

They work good. It is basically a "generic" Mossberg 500. If aesthetics are not your primary concern and a decent value is, I'd go for it.

Basically the same gun as the mossberg just cheap. You can buy one and not feel bad for letting it ride behind the seat in your truck.

I call it a "click" gun because a lot of the times, that's all it does......

I train soldiers in "reflexive fire" techniques at the post skeet range and we have used the mavericks. After putting quite a few rounds through them, they just start misfiring for some reason. It has happened on all of them that we use.

Probably, for the price, they are ok. You get what you pay for though. I'll never buy one.

I've had my maverick 88 for about 3 years and not a single problem. They're cheaper than regular mossbergs for 2 reasons. 1. Synthetic stock vs. wood. Walnut (even the fake walnut they use) is more expensive than fiberglass. And reason 2 is it only comes with a modified choke tube. You got buy the IC and full tubes separate (about $16 a pop). Only mechanical differance is the location of the safety. On the 500 it's on the tang, the 88 it's on the trigger guard.

I've hunted hard with my Maverick 88 for over 10 years now (dove, squirrel, rabbit, quail.) Not a single problem. Say what you will, there's nothing wrong with my Maverick! It's my go-to field shotgun. I'll buy another when I get around to it.

Wow.. well, I really don't know. I don't shoot competitively, at least nothing more than friendly competition with a group of gunning friends biannually. I've probably averaged around 150 rounds/year on doves for the last 4 years, and around 200/year on what clays I have played around with for the last 8(?) years... so there's 2,200... then there's squirrel, rabbits, quail, crows...

I'd guess somewhere in the neighborhood of 4-5,000 rounds over the 10 years I've had it. Again, nothing near what trap shooters will average, but quite a few rounds for a basic field pump gun. It's had minimal cleaning after each outing, only completely stripped and cleaned once, and no modifications of any sort. Like I said before - I'll buy another one eventually... it's my kinda gun.

Hmmmmmm, interesting. One of the points made against the Mossburg/Maverick family is the aluminium receiever , which suppossedly doesnt wear as hard as the Steel Remmy. As perceptive readers would know, I shoot a lot of animals with shotguns- around 4-5,000 rds a year I would say would be about right, and my guns have to be very hard wearing, which is why I like(d) the Remmy more. One feature the MOssburgs have all over Remington is the tang safety- I always bin the remmy one and use a aftermarket one.
