How accurate is your scoped SKS.

I'm down to either a 30-30 lever (16" scout scoped) OR an SKS (16" scout scoped) for a rifle that will kill a deer at 250yrds max, bear at 100 yrds max, mutants, and coyotes (the 30-30 accelerator really shine here).

My question is "What is the exact difference in accuracy between the two?"

ting ting

Not very because the brass bangs the scope after every shot, if you wanna scope your SKS depending on your mount you probably want to get one of those brass deflectors. I find my 2 SKS's to be just as accurate with iron sights. I feel the scope is not needed for these rifles.

Second, 30-30 lever action hands down!

My 2 cents

The Gooch :D

Some years ago I went to the range with my SKS, which I had tricked out with a bunch of goodies, including a Choate stock and a really nice mount, and one of the 4 power Chinese scopes.

I took the op rod out of the gun so I could operated it like a straight pull bolt gun, and proceeded to cut several 1.25" 100 yd. groups with Winchester softpoint ammo.

Very respectable.

To be more clear I would be using a forward mounted Scout Scope (handgun scope) on either system.

How did the SKS shoot in Semi, the same?

The lever might be more pc in KA.

I own a SKS. The fit and finish of such commie weapons leave more than a little something to be desired.

If I could do it again, I would just save up a couple hundred bucks more and get a Marlin 30-30. Like a good woman, something to fondle in your arms and oogle at with adoration.

I second the 30/30. I went threw the whole run around and gadget collecting and its not really worth it. I can shoot just as good with Iron sights as I did with my scope. Pretty much about 4 MOA with that crappy russian ammo. The scope just didn't stay zeroed after I clean the gun.

The only problem I see is that your max engagement range for deer is about 100y too far. Not sure if the cartridge (either) has enough smack left for a clean kill.

The trigger can be tuned on the lever gun (Marlins I've had anyway) much eaiser than on an SKS, IMHO.

My SKS is an outstanding brush rifle - groups in a playing card at 50m with no tuning. I've seen a couple shoot very small groups at 100m.

Most Marlins (no experiance with Winchesters) will shoot much better that expected.

Neither is a bad rig, just not sure that 250y on deer is feasable. Much rather have a good medium rifle with a low power scope if that last 100y is important.

I've got a Polish AKM with a PSO 4x24 scope. I get 6" groups with cheapo Barnual at 150yds with it, and I'd dare make a 200-yarder at a bear as long as I had a couple spare mags in my back pocket (or, in your case, a couple SKS strippers).

As for droppability, I don't know. You'd have to make a pretty ideal shot with a 7.62x39 to drop a bear. That's alot of hide to penetrate. I'd be afraid the bullet would expand before it hit vitals.

If you don't mind the challenge, save your money and get the SKS for now. However, I'd eventually get the 30-30 when money permits. (Want to buy a 1975 Winchester Mdl 94 in 30-30 with a 4x32 Tasco and nice padded leather sling? :D )

My SKS can routinely shoot sub 12" groups at 25 yard...

Thats roughly 48 moa, if I am not mistaken.

And people wonder why communism fell!!!

If you want a gun you can scope ...

Why not just get a Ruger Mini 30? I really like mine, and it's much better quality than most SKS's anyway.

Seriously, I don't think it's worth all the headaches to try to scope the SKS, especially if you are limited to putting a pistol scope (more expense) on the gun. Not only will that raise the cost of the package over the cost of a new Mini 30 (which comes w/ rings), it will also present fewer scoping options, especially if you want more'n 2x. I've just never personally liked the whole "Scout" scope idea, I guess. If it's so great, all scopeable guns would use it.

BTW, I also have a Winchester 16" 30-30, and as much as I like the semi-auto, the 30-30 is really the better gun for any type of hunting, being more accurate and much lighter.

Hope this helps.

That's about the same as my friend's Romanian AK. It ain't worth the cheap polyurythane they dipped it in.

However, his Chinese SKS (that I sold him :( ) will hang right in there with my AKM.

I, too, have a chinese sks that will shoot around 4" at 100 with the iron sights and Barnaul crap ammo, this surprised me. My Marlin 336A will shoot half that with open sights. I have to use a bright orange dot to aim at since my eyes aren't so good anymore.

I looked at a $399 Ruskie SKS today. The owner kept telling me that it was the best he had seen in a while. To me, it looked like a piece of crap. I think I would have about 0.0 pride of ownership. I would not have bought it for half the price.

The Marlin, on the other hand, is a fine rifle. Something built well that I would be proud to own. As far as mutant protection, the SKS would be fast from shot to shot. The lever could be more easily topped off in battle. Both hit equally as hard.

Funny thing about those Russian and Chinese guns and quality...

The finish is crap, the polishing is crap, the stock fit is usually crap, and accuracy's nothing to write home about...

But isn't it funny how they usually work, and stay working, no matter what?

I've yet to see a serious stoppage of an SKS or AK that wasn't caused by the owner doing something stupid.

If that's not true quality, I don't know what is.

I'm getting about 1.5" groups at 100 yrds with my SKS and a cheapo 4X scope. Haven't had any problem with the scope moving around or brass bouncing off it (it's a stubby little thing). I also have a steel 30 rd mag that doesn't jam. That being said, I own the sks and a .30-30 marlin, and I've never been convinced that the two are close to equal ballistically. The 7.62X39 is just a weak puppy. For hunting the .30-30 is your choice, but not for 250 yrd shots on deer.

mine is minute of coke can at 75 yds.
havent tested with a paper target yet.

ive also been wanting a scoped marlin 30-30 with a 16 in ported barrel...
