Houston Katrina "refugees" anniv.

From what I've seen and heard, Houston got a real kick in the teeth after opening its heart to the so-called "refugees".
How are things there now?

Funny you should ask...

...this was on this morning's news.

http://www.khou.com/topstories/stories/khou060915_mh_turfwar_.123fb115.html

Gang turf wars between "local" bad boys and LA former residents. Families are terrified to go out of their door at night. Nothing was mentioned about citizens of the neighborhood arming themselves.

A local constable told me, when my son was assaulted in January, that even where the evacuee criminals (and that is not a repetition in terms, let's be clear) didn't settle, they had often pushed homegrown bad guys out and into areas (like ours) that had not up until recently had problems at all.

So: not great. A lot of folks here really are sick of it.

Here's a billboard that was paid for by the Houston Police Patrolmen's Union:

That about covers it!

Don't worry... we'll take 'em back as soon as we get our housing projects rebuilt :). Although that may not be all that soon as the ACLU and other organizations are all worked up because we don't want to rebuild them EXACTLY the way they were. It seems odd to me that anybody would want things to be just like they were. Katrina gave us a chance to rebuild things better than they were, if we actually do it or not is a whole different bag of nuts...

+1 Glocakmolie. I saw that yesterday on the way home and silently applauded.

OBTC, you gotta take 'em sooner than that before this place turns INTO New Orleans....

Kinky Friedman had it right when he said most of the good people have returned to N.O. and all thats left in Houston are "crackheads and thugs".

This mess is likely to cost mayor Bill White a re-election in the future, people are fed up!

One local gun shop has taken to using this mess to promote his business with ads along the lines of "the katrinians are causing the crime rate to skyrocket and you need to protect yourself, come buy a gun".

Some local "refugees" were outraged by the ad, others like one young black couple from New Orleans said "we agree" as they were interviewed while in the shop buying a gun.

About a month after the storm i remember seeing a young healthy bodied black woman interviewed on tv, she was upset that she wasnt getting enough help and she stated "i am a student, i DONT work". The way she said it had me screaming at the tv "thats the problem!"

The responsible people are doing ok now, the welfare moochers before the storm are still welfare moochers. Only the elderly and disabled should be getting any further government assistance.

It's not like pre-Katrina Houston was up for safe neighborhood of the year award. People like to hang around people like themselves. Looks like these dope dealers have found a home! Good luck Houston, I don't think their going anywhere.
