Houston gun show, brand new Hi-Power

I got back from the Houston gun show at the Astrohall a few hours ago and picked up a NIB Browning Hi-Power.. 9mm, fixed sights, matte finish... This is one of only 2 NIB Browning Hi-Powers I saw at the ENTIRE show.. The other was a chromed model with gold hardware, not my style... I know there weren't any others at the show because my NICS check took 4 hours (!!!! instant my ass!!!) so I had PLENTY of time to look around. I have always loved the lines of the HP, it really is an elegant weapon.. Also, my dad had one for about 10 years, but I agreed to let my brother keep it after he died (I did keep 1 hi-cap though, hahaha)

Anyway, the reason I bought it was because I have heard a rumor that Browning has ceased production of the HP.. Does anyone have any futher insight on this?? Thanks..

I am happy that you got your new firearm and I hope you enjoy using it. There is a temporary lull in the production and it will resume sometime down the road. FN/Browning has too large of a supply of High-Powers on hand. This handgun is too good not to be produced. Regards, Richard.

Hello. I think you'll like your new HP and then be a "infected" as Richard and myself.
I believe that he has the Browning production business stated right. I also agree that the HP is too good a design not to be being produced. Best.

Thanks Richard and Stephen...

That makes sense to me.. I always knew I would be getting another BHP to replace the one my dad had. (like I said though, my brother has it now, so at least it's still in the family) Still, this was a HUGE gun show and I only found 2, (not counting the FEGs and used ones) so I wonder where they all are... I am glad to hear they will be making them in the future.. I also agree it is too good of a weapon to not make them... Thanks again for you replies.

Yep.. I know... I got my "packet" from DPS about a week ago.. Now I just need to find time to schedule a class and then wait my 60 days..

robear, just about any place that offers the CHL class will provide you with the DPS packet. No need to wait for it to arrive.

I already have the DPS packet.. When I said I'd have to wait, what I meant was I'd have to wait the indicated 60 days after the packet was sent in (after taking the class) to get the actual permit...

We (wife and I) both got our TX CHL permits about 30 odd days after they were sent in. The folks in Austin were a great help and were very friendly to work with.

Good luck.

Hi-Powers are getting scarce here in Cleveland guns shows as well. You can find WWII era ones all over, but none of the "Made in Belgium. Assembled in Portugual" versions. At a recent show, I saw only two, standard and a MKIII. I bought the MKIII. I found it at the last table in the last row. Five minutes after buying it, a guy offered my my cost plus $50 bucks for it.

Don't you folks think it's kinda weird that Browning claims that there's all this surplus supply out in the market and yet people are only sighting a few here and there across the U.S.?

just a note on texas chl packets. all the adult members of my family sent off the little cards to get "the packet" and we all recieved one. they are numbered. it seems that the wait to get the packet is brought on by the dps doing a "quick check " on the applicant to see if they are even going to send you one. anyway, i took the class and showes up with the right packet,no problem, some others there did not have their's yet and i offered the extra ones we had, the instructor informed me we could not do that. i think he knows what he is talking about since he is the head of the chl instuctors assn. of texas and one of the people wanting to use my extra packets called the dps and was told the same thing.
