"Housebreaker beaten to death
JOHOR BARU: A man’s attempt at breaking into a house cost him his life when more than 10 others beat him to death. In the 11.15pm incident on Monday, the man had tried to break into a house along Jalan Chokmar 5 in Taman Pelangi here. He was spotted by more than 10 people who chased and caught him and beat him to death.
State CID chief Senior Asst Comm II Datuk Abdul Rahim Jaafar said the victim, who died on the spot, had no documents or personal items on him.
He said police did not recover any weapon or stolen items from the crime scene.
“The victim was found with a head injury believed to have been caused by a blunt object,” he said, adding that the body had been sent to the Sultanah Aminah Hospital for a post-mortem.
SAC Abdul Rahim said initial investigations indicated that the victim was believed to be a drug addict responsible for multiple break-ins in the neighbourhood. He added that police had taken statements from a few individuals. SAC Abdul Rahim said the case was being investigated under Section 302 of the penal code for murder. He urged anyone with information to contact the state police headquarters at 07-2254499 or the nearest police station."
