If you remember from a few weeks back I posted a question about collecting a hornets nest. This is the link to that post and the replies:

I was all set to go get the thing but then the advice of one of the replies that I be 100% sure it was legal slowed me down. So I spent a couple of weeks trying to get either the game warden or the land owner ( Rayoner ) to grant permission.
So far they have just ignored me. Haven't said no, just have not responded. Wasn't in to much of a hurry though because the last time I checked it it was still active!
One afternoon last week I decided to go have a look at it to see if it was finally inactive. It was late in the day and I asked Louann if she wanted to go. She said yes and went to the safe to get her shotgun. I told her I wasn't planning on hunting just checking out the nest and that I was not taking my gun.
She said that was fine but that while I was checking out the hornets she was going to work down the edge of the swamp and shoot a pig. Also said that I may as well bring my gun as looking at the nest would not take that long.
So we get to the swamp and it takes about 15 minutes for me to find the nest even though I knew where it was. Took so long because sometime during the last couple of weeks it had fallen from the tree.
This is part of what was at the base of the tree.......
Now I'm frustrated and aggrivated but at least it's a nice afternoon and I had followed her instructions and brought the shotgun along.
With about a hour of light left I went the other way out into the palmettos away from the swamp edge.
About 45 minutes later, after slipping through the palmettos after them for about 15 minutes I manage to plant a load of 000 buck in the head of a fat sow.
I get my knife out and start to gut her, get to the point of cutting the esophogus and windpipe when I hear Louann's shotgun go off.
So the end result of a trip to the woods to look at a hornets nest is:
That's breakfast at the fishmarket the next morning. Not a bad way to start the day, fried hog and maple syrup to dip it in.
And all is not lost on the hornets nest front either. Just the other day the brother in law found one about a 1/2 mile from the last one. I've repestered the authorities for permission. That was a week ago.
We'll see...............
