hello all,
first of all let me start by saying that I do not believe in a zombie apocolypse and personally hate the zombie marketing scheme however I do have one question regarding the Zmax ammo available from hornady.

is there any real difference between Zmax and AMax or is it simply just green ammo to make teenagers think it's cooler than the rest?

its the same thing only with a green tip instead of a red tip. I like the color green better my self but would still stick with the red bullets :p

On Hornady's website, it says that the Z-Max bullets are made using the AMP process (advanced manufacturing process) for the jackets, like the A-Max bullet. No such claim is made for the V-Max line. Also, the Z-Max's are noticeably less expensive than the V-Max. Also, my son has noted that his 1 in 7 twist AR will shoot decent groups with my 40 gr Z-Max handloads, but shoots terrible groups with my factory Fiocchi 40 gr V-Max loads, as the bullets seem to be coming apart before they reach the target. If I had to guess, I would say that the Z-Max has a slightly thicker cheaper manufactured jacket and probably isn't quite as explosive or precisely accurate (in a slow twist barrel), but still is plenty accurate and explosive enough for my purposes. YMMV

They did much the same thing in handgun ammunition. I'm not quite as vehemently opposed to the Zombie crap. I still think it's crap, but as a catch-all for a Be-Prepared mindset I can think of worse, for example Idaho-Compound-Max. Anyway, to get back on topic, the Z-max pistol rounds are the same as their Critical defense with minor changes.. the color of the filler, and the case. Zmax have brass, while the Critical Defense apparently have a silver-nickel case. The Zmax were cheaper, so I got them. In the future, I will probably get the Critical Defense instead.
