Hornady Superperformance

Has anyone used these rounds? I bought a few boxes to try out. I may have gotten suckered by a marketing ploy by them calling it "Superperformance", but I got a real deal on them at a gun show. I'm using them for my Win MOD 70 30.06. I typically use REM CORE-LOKT.

It doesn't matter about caliber, just wondering about yalls views on this ammo.

Pretty much an updated version of the light and heavy magnums with better powders. I liked the HM version, there new stuff should be great.

I've shot them in a 270 Win Vanguard and they are accurate and fast. The recoil is on par with the Custom I used to shoot. 130gr and 140gr shot almost identical with the 140's a little higher. I'm looking forward to this years deer season as I know how well the SST works on whitetail. I think you are going to like them. That depending on if your rifle does.

I've used the Light Mags in a couple of calibers(7x57 & 257 Rob.) but haven't tried the Supers yet(probably won't as I'm reloading all my ammo). Unless you're pushing your rifle's capabilities, you probably don't need the extra umph. If you feel your 06 is a little short on range and don't want a 300 mag, these might help you compromise. For deer hunting at moderate range, the 06 has such a power advantage you likely won't see any difference. For something like elk, I'm not sure the SST is the best choice of bullet. The SST's I've used are definately deer bullets compared to a Nosler partition.

Thanks yall, yeah they will be used for deer hunting. There isn't any Elk hunting in my near future since I'm stationed in costal NC. I'm from the Mnts of KY & the restored elk herd is doing great up there & more & more elk permits are being alloted. However, I wont be able to get into elk hunting until I retire from the USMC in 6 years.

Deer is what the .06 superformance will be terrorizing. I'm gonna attempt to hunt black bear down hear on the coast & will be using my Marlin .444 w/ Hornaday's Leverevolution rounds for that.

I haven't shot the rounds yet through the MOD 70 because I got a new Nikon scope I'm gonna be putting on it.

BTW, I got a MOD 70 7mm Rem Mag...I'm thinking that would be a better choice for elk...what is your thoughts on that? Also, I prob should go w/a heavier grain bullet than the typical 150gr round in 7mm Rem Mag for elk...right?

mobuck You do understand that Hornady also loads there GMX bullet in the superformance in the lineup. Is that enough for you for elk? The SST will also work for elk if shoots are in the heart/lung area.
HOSKINS Boy there are some real fine deer in bertie county. Hunted there a couple years and i did not get may big one but some 160 class were take'n there. There are some "souped up " 444 rounds that buffalo bore loads and the GMX bullet in either the 06 or 7mm is a shoulder beaker and would also work on bear as well as the elk, but the sst will also work. That bullet is good bullet and either the .06 or 7mag will work equaly as well with a bit more range going to the 7mag. I set my 7mm so it shot a 300 yard zero and would shoot 6.5" low at 400 and 3" high at 100yards with the 139gr sst. It takes me to long to deside around 400yards if a deer is worth shooting atleast with good bino's and a good rangefinder so thats my limit. That 139gr HM loading has served me well from 20feet to 385 yards with almost instant kills and no real loss of meat. Good luck hunting.

I didn't make any comparison regarding the GMX as I haven't used them at all. I would not recommend a bullet that was only effective with a perfect broadside shot.

Thanks yall. the .06 is my go to deer rifle. I know that it would work on elk as well, but I got that 7mm collecting dust so I'm gonna set it up for elk & long range shooting scenerios, plus the added terminal energy is an added benefit IMO. Same w/ the .444...this is gonna be my dedicated bear & close range/brush gun, but it is capable of an accurate 200 yd shot w/ the Leverevolution rounds from Hornaday.

Looking at the data on the Superformance, it seems like a superb round when compared to the high end rounds made by Winchester, Remington, & Federal & actually costs less. The purpose of the thread was to see if the data publish is reporting the truth, that the velocity & energy is actually greater & that yall noticed that it in fact shoots a flatter trajectory than the other factory & premium factory rounds on the market today.

I tried some in 270 win with the sst bullet and the last group I shot with my new rifle was 3 shots all dead center and touching at 100 yrds. My search for a deer load is done. Got to see what they will do at 200 yrds but Im thinking they will work.

Thanks 1goodshot, that's good to hear. What type of rifle were you shooting those 270's out of? Just curious. I hope the Model 70 likes them, the ballistic & trajectory data is just so much better when compared to the other factory rounds that I have looked at.
