hornady seeding stem

does anyone have any experience with the hornady microjust bullet seading stem. how does it compare to a redding stem. can you use it on all calibers. can it be used on other die sets besides hornady. I'm interesting in buying one but want to know more about one.

I have a small pile of Hornady seating/sliding stems.

Micro adjust? all of my seating dies are micro adjust, all I have to do is use a height adjuster to adjust the stem above the die. I have a few RCBS competition type seating dies, I go for the bullet alignment with the case neck, the micro adjust is nice. When it is critical I make a transfer to adjust the seating die, then measure the height of the stem above the die.

I have several. They do work, but with reservations.

One will NOT let the sliding alignment sleeve drop because it vacuum seals the top of the die body, unlike the original knurled nut with a hole in it. None of the others suffer from this, just the one. I ended up drilling a small (1/16") hole at the top end of the die body to act as a vent & its fine now.

The micrometer scales are hard to read being silver on silver.

I never heard of them before just now. It looks like they will only work on the Hornady seating dies. Which means I will never use them, since I have no Hornady dies anymore, the ones I bought got traded at gunshows for cash or other items on a table.

Hornady has a long way to go to even get as-good-as lee concerning loading dies. They come out with dies that are not tested, then when they are sadly lacking in performance and quality, make changes that you have to pay for. MAYBE then you have something that works.

They make great bullets. They should have stuck with just making bullets, let others make loaders and dies.
