Hornady LNL AP with SB Dies

Has anyone gotten the .223 RCBS Small Base sizing die to properly size cases without camover? I've been trying and trying but so far have come up short. The only way it will size the case properly so that it passes the case gauge is to run the die in far enough that there is significant cam over. I typically do my sizing on a single stage but I'm trying to increase my efficiency by cutting out a separate sizing step and do the sizing along with primer, powder, expand the neck, drop bullet, seat bullet and then a light factory crimp.

Anyone got any pro tips for me?

The small base die narrows the brass more than a standard die does, which pushes the shoulder further forward before it makes contact with the die shoulder. The die shoulder then has to set it back further than a standard die is asked to do, which adds effort. I think that's what you are seeing. If you are simply running out of press range, the mouth of the die can be ground back by the required number of thousandths. To test for this, remove the decapper from that die and slip a shim between the head of the case and floor of the press platform and see if that makes it easier to achieve the needed shoulder setback.

Are you sure you need to use an SB die? Folks unable to get once-fired brass down to size can need them, but usually just for the first resizing. Once your cases are fireformed to your chamber, a standard sizing die usually makes them enough smaller to chamber well in that same gun. An exception is if your firing a self-loader that is extracting before chamber pressure has dropped enough, which can stretch the cases long and narrow.

I am firing a self loader. The one is an SBR with a 10.5" bbl and carbine gas length gas system. I've tried to tune the rifle with as heavy a buffer as possible to try and slow the extraction and give the brass more time to cool
