Hornady LNL AP primer feed tube ?

after you are done reloading on a Hornady LNL AP press how is the best or easiest way to remove the unused primers from the primer feed tube when you need to switch to a different size primer ?

I use a trick posted on one of the forums. Loosen the base of the tube holder and slide a business card under to block the primers while you remove the whole assembly. The challenge is how to store the primers. I use a spare primer turn plate and cover (marked with what primer it contains).

Can you use different size primers in the same tube??? I thought they had different size tubes for different size primers.

My loading room is air conditioned/heated and I only run small pistol primers through my AP so I never empty it.

Realgun,

I like the business card trick, and if I ever have to empty it I will remember that one.
That should work well with a little care.

Have some kind of a plan so you won't have left over primers. All it takes is a little math.

Really NOT trying to be snarky, but I use the LNL AP also, and I just ensure I don't have more primers than I will load.

Otherwise, put a large bucket under the area where the press sits, take the tube off, and hope you catch them all. Not a great option.

Good luck.

Raise the ram 2 or 3 inches, put your primer flip tray under it, drop ram back down, loosen and remove primer tube base screw, then slowly pivot the base on the locater pin (without removing it) and primers will land right on the tray, easy, peasey.

Surely I can't be the only person to experience a malf of some kind in which it's been necessary to remove the primers from the tube.

I just pull out the screw and rotate the base of the primer tube around on its pin and slide my finger under the tube as it clears the base. then lift it off of the pin.
After that you can dump the primers out either end into your container of choice.
I tend to put them back into the pickup tube, but that only works if you are going to start reloading again shortly, and am just emptying the feed tube while cleaning the press.
Otherwise i store them back in the primer box they came out of. I always keep the last primer box that was dumped into the flipper tray handy.
That way they still have the correct lot number, and are in a box with the proper primer type.
