Hornady Critical Defense in a Governor

Shot some .45 Colt in Hornady Critical Defense today in my Governor. This is a fine round and very accurate.

I shot that 1 5/8" group off hand, single action, standing at 21'. They shot to point of aim from my gun with minimal recoil or muzzle blast.

I didn't shoot them today but I have recently shot some of the .410 shot shell from Hornady as well. They too shoot to point of aim. However for this target I was holding low because that's how cowboy action .45 Colt loads and .45acp FMJs shoot from my gun.

Shot those three shots the same way (off hand, single action, standing at 21'). These are a little warm and probably not for the recoil sensitive however.

I think the Hornady stuff performs well from my Governor and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone that has one, especially the .45 Colt. I think I'm going to buy some Hornady in .45acp to see if that stuff does as good from my politician!

At 185 gr, that is a rather light weight bullet for a 45 Colt. The general rule with FTX ammo is that it cannot be reloaded with anything but FTX bullets because of the trim length of the brass. Consider the reloading issues before buying a bunch of this ammo. If not reloading, the brass is virtually worthless and may not be of interest to a reloader either. FTX bullets are not easy to come by.

If taking on outside fired brass, I check head stamps and, if any are Hornady, I check and segregate trim lengths. Those from XTP or COWBOY would be fine.

Thanks for the information. I however don't reload but someone who does may see that and be able to make a decision on whether to buy these rounds.

Regardless they are the best factory ammunition for accuracy that I have shot, though both Winchester Silver Tips and PDX1s are nearly as good.
