Howdy Howdy,

Has anyone here used the Hornady 3120 150 grain bullets in 7.62X39 reloads? Thoughts and results?

Thank you.

I have. I don't have my log in front of me. But I remember the result was OK. Nothing spectacular. My SKS has groove diameter of 0.313" and I had been using 0.310" bullets with so so results. Tried the 0.312" hornady 150gr. It didn't help a lot. It turned out the problem was with the rifle's crown. Once I had that taken care of, the group became much better, even with 0.310" diameter bullets. I have never used the 0.312" bullets since for 7.62x39. I save them for my smle and mosin.

It worked and your rifle may like it better.

Much appreciated tangolima, I have an AR upper and a CZ bolt gun chambered in 7.62X39. Looking to make some heavy and accurate ammo. These appear to be the only readily available and reasonably price projectile that aren't cast lead.

Hornady also have 170gr 0.312". It is boat tail hollow point. I use them a lot for smle and mosin. It is a bit long for 7.62x39 but should work for your bolt gun. You will need to adjust the load though.

sticking with published data for now which means 150 grn projectiles. Waiting on the BATFE to finish stamping my paperwork for my Harvester Big Bore. Then I'll look into 170s and custom load development.
