I've purchased two 20rd boxes of 10mm ammo. They appear to be pretty old (the sticker price was $10.50!!!!!). A rural ag co-op had them. One box has 170 gr xtp slugs. I know that early Norma 10mm ammo used 170 gr slugs. It would appear that Hornady followed suit.
The second box is 180 gr xtp slugs. Additionally, it is marked "full load" on the end tab.
Is the early Hornady 10mm 170 and 180 true full horsepower ammo? I am aware that Buffalo Bore and other gourmet ammo shops sell hot 10mm, but how does the Hornady, particularly this early Hornady, stack up? I hope to take a deer with this factory ammo.
Short of a chrono to get the real story, does anybody have any hunting/performance experience with early 170 Hornady 170 and 180 10mm.
