Ok, I have the $64,000 question. Someone with the definitive answer, please tell me how Hoppes is pronounced. Is it Hoppees? Is it Hoppz? Is it Hopes? Yes, that's right, I heard a dude at Cabela's pronounce is Hopes like, I have many hopes.

He's saying it wrong. How do I know? Well it's a German last name. I was in Germany. Once. For a vacation. A 32 year 'vacation'. But what do I know? :)

So as "D'eath", pronounced "De-Ath" is a French name, I shouldn't call them "the Deaths"?

I'm not even going to ask about the British "Hoare"'s (pronounced "Ho-Ar-ay")!

I just call it Hoppy's. And I don't say McDonald's with a Scottish brogue. But, I do say Tah-ko Bell. Does that count? ;)

nick_c_s and led farmer,

Nick, the led farmer has the definitive answer. I'm like you, I have pronounced it haap-eeez for ever too and I'm sticking with it. This is like asking someone from Oklahoma if the state's name is Okla - homa or Ok - lahoma.

The correct pronounciation of a man's name DOES matter !!
AND the man's name who invented the WWII M1 rifle is correctly pronounced:

GAIR-und

HOW do I absolutely know this as a hardcore FACT? John Garand told me so.

And so it goes...
