Well, I have compared both after a year of using the recent Hoppe's brand and have these observations which may prove meaningful to anyone wondering what CLP to choose between the two:
1. The Hoppes is lighter in viscosity and evaporates/disappears in a month or so. Reapplication of this product is necessary on a much more frequent basis if you want to keep a gun lubed.
2. Bearing surfaces with the Hoppes solution develop debris of some sort that is easily wiped away. Don't know if this is just the solution changing in color or causing some chemical reaction on bearing surfaces to make the debris.
3. Army CLP is clean on bearing surfaces and remains clean or un-discolored for months.
4. Discreet conclusion: If you go the Hoppes route you need to re-apply routinely more often than the old CLP.
