Holy Smokes!!

.480 Ruger

I think the American Rifleman sometime in the last 4-6 months evaluated this round in handgun and lever action, though I think it was a Marlin.

Another darn marketing ploy...

To seperate the "gotta have 1 of Everything" gunbuyers from more of their cash...Lately it's been large bore leverguns = the Guide Gun and Co-pilot chamberings and Winchesters reintroduction of their Model 95 in .405. Is it that leveractions are cheaper to produce, or are buyers just satiated with boltguns in every chambering devised by the Mind of Man:rolleyes:
All very impressive till you try to fire one of these lightweight shortbarreled big bore wonders. I was vastly entertained watching a guy at my club shoot his brand new 45-70 Guide Gun...
He lasted 3 rounds and packed up...Hope his rotor Cuff problem is cleared up by now and he didn't take too big of a loss when he sold it to pay his physio-therapy bill:( :D

Boy, can't imagine getting beat up by a .45-70 Guide Gun. The last one I had was more fun to shoot that an '06. I have to admit recoil was never a factor, actually the .35 Remington 336 whacked harder than that .45-70. Each to their own eh?:D

Get a #3 Ruger. Handload a 450g cast bullet over the maximum load of 3031 (from an old Lyman manual) and touch off a box of those (20 will do). Those lever action 45-70s will seem like a dream.

pmglock,

No, this isn't old news. I found that on the website the other day myself, and had to change my shirt from drooling on it. Sounds like an excellant brush caliber / rifle combo to me.

Crimper-D,

New calibers = sales = stay in business = GOOD
No new calibers = market saturation = belly up = BAD

Some of us just like oddballs, and especially big bore levers.;) I don't need one of everything, but I do need a few of the weird ones.

Happy Shootin'... Mac

P.S. Recoil is Fun ! :D
