Holy 3 Inch Magnums Batman

I bought some 3 inch high velocity winchester steel shot loads yesterday with #2s in them to try out in my Mossberg M500. Those bad boys give a fella a sore shoulder fast.

Who makes a good recoil pad to replace the stock hard pad on the 500?

If you think those are bad try the high velocity turkey loads........

Simms Vibration Labs (Limbsaver) is the pad I would add to one of my shotguns if I were to change what I have on them now.

My wife has a Limbsaver and loves it. She has the slip-over kind. It's on a Nova, so you can't screw it on like other guns. That and a Pacmyer (probably spelled wrong) are the only two I've ever shot with, but both really worked great. Good luck.

What are you doing shooting steel this time of year?

I would agree, some of the Turkey loads just get your attention like right now. I sure wouldn't be leaning my shoulder against a tree when shooting them.. been there done it,, not fun at all.

This is where the autos are nice.
3.5 inchers in my 935 mossy auto are much easier to take than and 3 inch load in a pump gun.
Now bench rest some 3 inch slugs and report back.

ohh..... I can feel the pain.....

makes me shudder to think of shooting slugs off the bench. turkey loads are bad enough...

Get a good recoil pad and perhaps a shoulder pad too.

Try some Federal 3-1/2" 12ga 2oz.#4 loads in a Mossberg 835 with that cheapass factory kickpad...............black&blue for days..........hpg

Just kicks (literally) and giggles I'm looking for a good goose load so that I can get some practice in with it. If I recall correctly we can hunt snow geese in the spring cuz theres so freaking many of them.

Now you know why they package 3" magnums in a box of five.

Shell #1: wow, that recoils a lot more than I thought it would. But I can take it OK.

Shell#2: Maybe I need a limbsaver recoil pad.

Shell#3: Maybe I need a Limbsaver, and Knoxx recoil system combined.

Shell#4: Maybe I need a limbsaver, Knoxx, padded vest, and wear winter coat.

Shell#5: If this package contained 6 shells there would be one left!...I am going rabbit hunting using reduced recoil 2-3/4 #7 field loads.

:-)

Mossberg 500 12g, Knoxx SpecOps recoil reducing stock w/optional Limbsaver for Knoxx SpecOps replacement pad.

I've blown through about 60+ 3" magnum Brenneke Black Magic Magnum 600grain slugs. My common apparel is a tea shirt or a light button down shirt. (no bruises or interesting stories of falling backwards, etc...)

Something I learned from a guy in Walmart while I was shopping around has saved me a trip to the chiropractor: put lead split shot weights in your stock. He recommended getting about 1 1/2 to 2 lbs of split shot and then some foam duct sealant and making layers inside the stock. Just unscrew the butt plate and pour in a layer, then spray some filler, and repeat until sufficiently full. This adds inertia as well as a shock absorber and it makes a BIG difference. This brought it down from kicking like a .338 or .375 to about like a .270. I'd imagine adding a pad would make it even less unpleasant.
