Holsters and Hiking

National Forest requires exposed holsters and hiking requires major caliber, at least in bear country. What do you use for a holster?

"National Forest requires exposed holsters ... "

Got a link? I've never heard of that before. Would like to follow-up some.

Thanks.

My comment came about after reading some TFL posts. I have now looked at more posts and will state that I don't have any idea what is legal. Some folks suggest that state law applies. Does anyone have a Forest Service URL that clears things up? I'm at work, but when I get some time, I'll search for one if none appears here.

I use a 1911 in a british pattern 37 two flap highpower holster. the belt and the rest of my gear are british pattern 37 as well, unless I'm carrying my mini-14 or m-1a, in which case i use an eagle thigh holster with a kydex lining on my GI belt and vest.

No sweat, Gary H. Was just curious as I've never seen any ref to CCW in the National Forests. Parks, etc. are another whole deal ...

If you do run across something though, I'd be interested.

I'm going to need some help. Here is the URL for the U.S. Forest Service:

http://www.fs.fed.us/

You can then use the search facility.

So far I have found forests where guns were prohibited. Other statements suggesting that state law applies. One stated that guns were O.K. if not attached to ammunition. Seen shooting guidelines, but nothing uniform. If anyone can make sense of all of this, please do!

All of the regs are here..somewhere:

London Bridge Trading Co...

"Air Crew" model. Cordura (lots of colors including camo). Will fit anything from a Glock 27 to a full sized 1911. Would "probably" fit a .44 Mag revolver. One loop of material goes around my neck and the bottom of the holster has a "snap" button loop that goes around my belt. Good, light set-up. (However, a park ranger would spot the strap across my chest in about one second, if I was trying to keep the holster hidden.)
