Anyone know where to get a pattern for holsters?
Newbie here but an old fart. Been doing BP for some 30 years now.
Got a 1858 new army in 8 inch that needs a holster and want to make it myself.
Thanks in advance!
If you have a Tandy Leather near by, stop in and grab one of these. Or just order them online. If you can go to the store, the staff will be able to help you with every thing you need.
I don't have the first book but I do have the second one, and it will walk you step by step through the process. Once you get the basics down, you will be able to make up the patterns you want.
I started making holsters about six months ago when I couldn't find a holster for my new SW 686 that could be made in a reasonable time frame. Tandy leather factory's book called "How to make Holsters" by Al Stohlman is a good place to start. Some other good sources are www.leatherworker.net and www.jdlawhon.com/beltslide. Both are good at showing how to work, dye, mold and sew leather. I've since finished five holsters and modified a bunch of factory holsters to make them exactly the way I want them. It's actually an addictive hobby and surprisingly simple once you get going. Good luck.
