my new desantis tbs holster for my service six squeaks while i'm wearing it. not every step but if i twist or turn to one side it squeaks. is this normal till it breaks in? thanks

In my limited experience, yes and no. LOL!

I have an old shoulder rig that squeaks...I have holsters I have bought brand new and have not used them alot that don't. I have a brand new Diamond D Guides Choice chest rig for my 460 that the harness squeaks with just about every breath in and out.. (LOVE this rig!! By no means am I dissatisfied with it for this)

Leather can be squeaky. Especially when carrying heavier weapons. Also, holsters that are tighter fitting to your weapon seem squeakier than other types.. Example: A basic Hunter brand designed for just about any brand large frame revolver with a 4"bbl compared to a tighter fitting, more concealed carry oriented, make/model specific Bianchi 3-slot belt holster...

And as the leather breaks in and wears to your belt, revolver and body it should quiet down some....

All of this is just my experience.... Which compared to many others is limited.

Is it squeaking where the leather belt rubs against the leather holster? If so I’ve heard of folks using shoe polish. Remember you don’t really want to soften the holster or the belt, but just reduce the friction a little.

I have made leather holsters for many years and always finish them with shoe polish. Shoe polish is a wax it will not soften or harm leather. It can be also be used to make an old holster look newer again.

As for squeaking, shoe polish may be difficult to apply to the tight area that is producing the squeak. A better way would be to use a spray can of silicone lubricant (the kind that dries completely in a few minutes). The dry silicone will produce a slippery leather-to-gun fit and allows the gun to be drawn much easier. However, the silicone quickly wears away and must be reapplied to maintain the easier draw. The silicone, not being an oil, will not soften/harm the leather either.

If you use silicone spray, be cautious about over-spray. If it gets on your hard surface floor you will discovery how slippery it can make them.

I always just wore them around the house with an empty gun, and randomly did about a bazillion presentations in dry fire.

Squeaks usually went away pretty quick, and I killed two birds with one stone. :)
