Holster - S&W M&P 40

got a holster yesterday because I need one for my upcoming concealed carry class this Saturday

I got a pretty simple Galco black leather concealable belt holster for my S&W M&P 40...very nice...double stitched and looks like high quality leather

but.....

whenever I put my gun into the holster, the friction from the leather to the gun makes the slide pull back...I dunno, it just doesn't seem safe...I could be wrong, though

I will most likely not be carrying a gun on me very often in the future (except at the range) but, when I do, I want the holster to be safe and very nice

anyone have any suggestions for a high quality holster for the S&W M&P 40 that doesn't require a lot of effort to get the gun into the holster? not so concerned with price (under $200), just want something that works great and looks nice

thanks

version below (except it's black)

I know it sounds cheap, but I have a Holster Kings universal one. It fits all my handguns and I have no slide problems. I paid 20 bucks for it at a gun show.

I love it and my friends are now buying them after seeing mine. For $20 the worst thing is you might not like it and it will end up in a drawer. It still cost you less than seeing a movie.

Personally, for everyday carry, your holster is fine. You want a snug fit, and hopefully the only time you will ever need to holster your weapon is when you are putting it on in the morning. As long as you can draw quickly, I don't see an issue. Also, next time your sitting on the couch watching tv, sit there and spend some time holstering and drawing your gun. Should loosen it up a little.

My suggestion, keep the Galco holster you have for your class and for when you might actually carry during your daily routine.

As far as range time goes, why not try a holster that is less "concealable." I personally love my Blackhawk Serpa retention holster. I see no need to worry about concealment at the range. Get something thats comfortable to wear and works well with your gun. I know when I'm in the market for a holster, I shop at my local gun store. They are always more than happy to provide me with a USPc(my daily carry) off their rack so I can see how I like the holster.

Shop around, try stuff out, and see what works best for you.

re: Blackhawk Serpa retention holster

I like that...also looks like there's no"breaking in" needed...am I correct? and you're right, I don't really need a concealed carry holster...99% of the time, the holster will be used at the range

will the Blackhawk Serpa not work ok for the concealed class?

looked online...gets great reviews

I know you already found a holster, but... if your ever in the market again, look at the Safariland ALS. I have several of these and use the duty version on a daily basis and love it. I find it is fast, auto secures by simply returning the weapon to holster and the thumb release puts my (and those I have spoken with) thumb in the perfect position along the frame/slide as the gun is drawn. Check em out, worth every penny!

That holster will stretch out. Put your gun in it and leave it in there for a few days. That is really all you need to do and I think you'll be very happy with your Galco.

M&P holsters...

The new Kydex holster looks good but a bit chunky for my tastes.
I just obtained a new M&P 9x19mm full size(with ambi safety).
For concealed use I may get a Safariland SFS rig or a Blackhawk SERPA.
A few other well made holsters include; Kirkpatrick Leather, Galco, Highnoon Holsters, COM Holsters, Bulman Gunleather, Kramer Gunleather, Mitch Rosen, Blade-tech, Don Hume, Ted Blocker, El Paso Saddlery, Alessi.
Many "armed professionals" like horsehide & I also like the polymer/kydex holsters.

I bought a DeSantis thumb break 3 slot from the S&W web site for $65.00. That was 2 yrs ago. I use it for the M&P 40 FS and C models. It has a tension adjustment screw at the trigger guard. Check out opticsplanet.com for holsters. I just ordered a DeSantis thumb break scabbard for my 3913, for $52, free shipping.
