Holster position

I've enclosed a few pics of me wearing my Glock with one of those with my shirt covering it. Does this look like the proper way to wear the gun, and does it seem to be concealing well? I have it so I can swing my arm in a natural pattern and grab it should I need it.

Also, can you keep your gun stored in the holster, or will this cause the tension in the holster over time to wear down?

Thanks!!

I wear mine in about the same place and its about the best place and way to carry any of them.

I would suggest you get a decent belt, and attach the loop to it and not the belt loop. The way you have it there, youre likely to rip the loop off as you draw the gun.

Well......not really, as far as properly worn. I can't say I've seen a loop used like that, so far.

Normally a loop like that goes under a belt and is then snapped, and is vertical. I suppose yours will work like that to keep it in place, somewhat, but I recommend you look into getting a gun belt for actual support.

As far as position, if it works for you and is comfortable and doesn't print, that's what's important. Personally I can't make it work in that 3 (or 9) position, I need to move it back to 4/430 or thereabouts.

I carry mine strong side kidney carry with a forward rake.
I've tried just about every carry method and this is my favorite.
Smaller hand guns I often carry in a pocket holster.

You'll probably want to try other holsters at some point.

Personally, I am a huge fan of Remora holsters. http://www.remoraholsters.net/ They don't clip or strap, they are just covered in a texture that is very grippy, and you can put them anywhere, IWB, pocket, any angle. They are cheap, and because there is so little to the actual holster (no thick leather, snaps, straps, etc), I can conceal my SR9c under just a t-shirt very easily. I conceal at 4-5 oclock regardless of the method.

Other suggestion based on reviews is the Crossbreed Supertuck. I have one on the way but I've never heard of someone getting one and not loving it.

You definitely need to be wearing a belt with that setup.

I highly recommend you do some (unloaded) drawing drills, from different positions (sitting, kneeling etc). It is a real eye opener.

My advice.........go with IWB appendix carry. Takes a little getting used to, but many advantages; fast acquisition, protected, conceals well, accessible from lying on your back. Also, you can use a light nylon web belt, thick leather is unnecessary. Give it a try.

I will get a belt, but the fellow at the place said you can just strap this around your loop if need be. What kind of belt is good for this? Just regular one you'd find in Kohl's? (something tells me I'm going to catch it for that Q.)

Also, when you do the appendix carry, as I tried this this morning, how do you sit down comfortably?

I'm just trying this one way for now, haven't gotten my CCW permit back yet even, as this is what the instructor showed us in class, but I want to play around with different holsters and different ways to conceal until I find what's best for me. I was practicing getting in and out of the holster, etc. I can't tell you how many people showed me their CCWs yesterday, way they had them, and their big ole bellies to boot!! Most carried this same exact way from what I saw. LOL.

I don't think you can pocket carry comfortably a Glock. If you could, that's where I would put it, right in the front pocket.

Oh, I asked the fellow I bought the holster from, upon recommendation of the instrructor for the CCW class, what differentiates his holsters from others? He said it's made very light and it doesn't lose its shape and "smash" in when you pull it, so it's easy to put it back in.

I've seen a few named on here. Any more good ones to look at?

His holsters are probally made from preserved but untanned leather, which is not only much stiffer but cheaper as well.
I like this holster material. but it is harder on the handgun's finish.

Just a comment on concealed carry, and what is right for me may not be right for you. Please keep that in mind.

Been carrying concealed for the better part of the last 40 years.

Get a real belt, a real holster and be prepared to adjust your dress for the addition of the handgun. Also adjust your lifestyle because you carry a gun.

I carry strong side inside the pants. Just over the right hip. All of my pants and belts are now 1 to 2 inches bigger than my waist size to accomodate the thickness of the handgun and holster. My belt and waist size WAS 32 and now is 34 because of the thickness of the gun and holster and also after reaching 60 my waist is not a 6 pack anymore. (yea right) I have added an inch. I no longer wear the tight fitting shirts or t-shirts. All are loose and hang over. Again, changing my dress for the addition of the handgun.

Do not go for any kind of "gimmick" in carry. Have yet to see or hear of one work when the defication hit the whirling bladed device.

This is just a few thoughts before you spend a bunch of money and build what I call holster heaven or that pile of mistakes I made when I first started carrying concealed.

I carry with a OBH myself which I find more confiortable. A good belt is required. I am not too concerned if it briefly peeks out as I have a permit.

Oh, forgot to mention...........for appendix IWB, two very good holsters; the "ArchAngel" by Fricke or the "Cover Up" by Tucker.

The Archangel is plastic, gun clicks in and you can adjust the tension and has two belt loops. Very nice.

The Cover Up, nice molded leather, rough side out with a belt clip.

You have to experiment a little with the position, but I found the 12:30-1:00 position to be comfortable(right at the crease of the groin and upper leg). Just move it in like quarter inch increments either way until you find the sweet spot. No fancy belt necessary. A simple, 1.5 inch nylon belt like a 5.11 or Blackhawk will work fine.

I have been carrying a very long time, but have settled on this way as the best for me. I like the feeling that the gun is most protected and only within my control, not hanging on the side of my body where I cannot see or feel it, as is the case with a OWB at the 4:00 position.

OP - I agree that sitting with an IWB appendix carry can be uncomfortable. For my Glock I have an IWB and a 3 slot pancake holster (I tried the Bianchi Pirhana and like it, but there are a lot of 3 slots out there) if I am driving a good distance or sitting alot I'll use the pancake holster in the cross draw position. If I'm going to be standing or walking more IWB appendix carry makes concealment easier and is very comfortable.

Some people like to pick a carry method and stick to it, I choose my carry method depending on what my plans are for the day.

Definitely pay attention to the good quality holster recommendations that have been made here. As others have said before you can save a lot of money by buying an expensive holster first rather then several cheap holsters.

+1 on this!

A friend had a western rig with a blued single action six-shooter but after leaving it in the leather holster for a couple of weeks the gun started rusting. Very sad.

This was a low buck unlined leather rig and I don't remember the maker but I do remember that after rubbing off the rust you could still see difference in the finish where the gun had been in contact with the leather.

What size Glock is it? It is hard to tell in the pic. I carry a Glock 22 in a serpa holster, here's some pics:

When I go to bed at night, I put my glock in a soft holster in my nightstand and just set the serpa aside. If the gun is comfortable for you to wear in that spot all day I say go for it. I am skinny so I have to keep it at 4:00 to stay comfy. It's also in a great position for "Sure Mr Badguy, let me get my wallet for you..."

Get a good leather gun belt. If you feel okay carrying that way now, you'll be really impressed when you have a gun belt to support your rig.
