I was thinking, since my 58 rem. has'nt arrived yet from cabelas:( .while i'm waiting i thought that i would pass the time by checking out some holsters that would fit the 58 with its 5 1/2 " barrel. i've been looking around the net some , but no luck. any suggestions???

Don't know about a 5-1/2", have you checked with Dixie Gun Works? For $5 they'll send you a thick and entertaining catalog. I'm expecting Santa to deliver my 2011 edition.

Cabela's has a US Marshal '51/Army Police .36 Black-Powder Holster (Item: IK-212807 )

It looks to me like it would fit with a little work stretching the leather here and there.

Indeed - the first review on the Cabela's website by a purchaser for that holster says it will fit the 5 1/2" barrel 1858 Remington 44 with a little working in.

Got your holster! $29.00 call 864415 7463 or
bhardy360@aol.com:) I have it it w/ set 1 pietta 58 short 44/ holster/ conversion cylinder all for 489.00--but will break out holster-holster is leather w/ engravings safety tassel and is for cross draw,

Most of Cabela's western holsters are Oklahoma Leather which is chrome tanned. You need vegetable tanned leather.

Please explain why we need vegetable tanned leather for our holster

Chrome tanned will get loose and floppy with use. It will either take both hands to draw it or it will have to be tied down. It will still take both hands to reholster it. This wont be right away when it's new but will happen sooner rather than later. Oiling it will hasten it's demise. Also the chemicals will leech out causing rust if you store your gun in it. With leather you pretty much get what you pay for. If it's a cheap price it's cheap leather.

The holster I got from Cabela's over 3 years ago has served me well. Not sure if it's chrome or oil tanned, but it hasn't gotten sloppy and there's nary a rust mark on the gun. Gun's in the holster when it's on my belt, and it's in the holster in my safe. Almost always in the holster. Here's the one I got. I added a hammer thong.

Before you edited you said it was Triple K which is a good brand. Look at the price differences between Triple K and Oklahoma Leather. If you do indeed have the one you reposted I'm happy for you. I have a couple of Oklahoma's but they hardly ever get used. The double rig I had that did get used was crap.

Starbuck, I bought a rem 58 5 1/2 inch barrel from cabelas last year.I also bought a conversion cylinder for it . I like to carry mine in the woods . So I bought an uncle mike's holster from cabelas for 14 bucks. Its a sidekick size 3# for large double action pistols 6" barrels. It fits my Rem 58 like a glove .The holster come in black or camo.

I actually thought it was tripple K, and it probably is, but is rebranded with "Cabelas" on it. I took out tripple k from my post because the actual holster doesn't say tripple K. Never the less, it was cheap at 20 bucks, and has been serving me well. I have much more expensive holsters as well, but for walking in the woods, I actually prefer the Cabela's one.
