Hole spacing on Win 70 pre 64 rear scope mount

I'm trying to switch scope mounts on a Winchester 70 pre-64 in 338 WM. According to everything I've found the rear mount hole spacing is supposed to be .435, but when I pulled the existing mount the holes turned out to be spaced .395+-0.010. The front mount seems to be regulation.
Has anyone ever heard of this kind of spacing, and can give me the correct number to modify the mount I got?
 
Maybe yours was drilled and tapped later.

My prewar left the factory without drilling and tapping for mounts. This was done later. I have not measured my holes yet so I am curious what the correct dimensions are.
