Hogue Savage Stock

Don't know about your question but I have had the same stock on my Model 70 for a couple years and I love it. It improved the accuracy of the rifle a fair amount.

The only downside to the Hogue stock is weight if you are going to be carrying it a lot.

Would it be okay for me to get the one compatable with varmit barrels and put on my rifle which has a sporter barrel?

The Hogue stocks aren't bad on the 10-22's. They add a little weight and the LOP is a much better fit.

I've purchased a couple of used centerfires with them and they went straight in the trash can as soon as a replacement could be found. They are way too heavy, thick, and chunky for my tastes, but will shoot as well as any. I suppose on a varmit/tactical rifle meant to be used from a bench and not carried much they might be a good enough choice.

They make 2 versions. One with a full bedding block that is insanely heavy. Another without that is just heavy.

Savage has changed their actions 2-3 times over the years. You need to make sure any aftermarket stock will fit the exact rifle you have. This has caused a lot of problems and not all stockmakers make a version to fit all of the Savages.

If you are using the stock Savage box mag, you should be able to do so without extra purchases.

If, like me you want to go to a different box magazine, then you have to get a bottom metal kit,, along with the magazines.
