Hogue grips & P97

I shot it for the first time today. I love it! Great accuracy and excellent SA trigger pull. DA trigger is slightly above average.

But, here is my dilema:

Its slipery polymer tends to shift in the hand. I want to put a Hogue wrap-around on it, BUT: is it legal? After all, on the P97, the Hogue would BLOCK the serial # on the grip. I don't want to have to take the Hogue off everytime an officer wants to run a serial check (I know this is rare, but I assume they have the right to). What do you think, can I legally put a Hogue on even though it will cover up the serial #?

Have you EVER had a officer of the law run a check on a serial number on a gun you own?

Put on the Hogue grip, and don't worry about it. (The serial number has been covered with a temporary covering, not removed. There should be no question of illegality.)

Of course it's legal, but it makes a fat gun even fatter though. Might also catch on clothing more often. It'll be a pain to take that thing off... cut a WINDOW on it for the serial number when you intall it... THAT would be cool-looking if you could do a good job. Just get an Exact-O knife...

Don`t worry about the serial number thing. I`ve never even heard of anyone having the numbers on one of their gun run by a cop unless it was used in a crime. Plus you can pull the sleeve off easier than it goes on. I have one on mine and I like it very much. I took it off for awhile and used skateboard tape on the front and backstraps. That worked well too but I went back to the Hogue,it just feels better to me. I wouldn`t worry about adding 1/8" of thickness at the palm swells it`s not even noticable. I`ve been carrying mine under a T shirt and it doesn`t seem to be effect concealability at all by either it`s thickness or catching on the cloth. Marcus

I used an electric engraving pen(Dremel's) to texture the front and back straps with great results. It gives you extra control w/o adding bulky rubber to the frame. Rubber grips have been known to 'grab' your outer garments and give-away the presence of your CCW. Just a cautionary $.02. :)

Any gunsmith skilled in checkering can checker the front and backstraps for you. There is also a textured tape you can apply to the front and backstraps. Here's a link:
