Hmmm.... should I or shouldn't I

buy the S&W model 1917 that I found tonight. The blueing is about 95%, no rust, perfect grips, good bore, cylinder a bit wobbly...which worries me a little, but overall very nice. He's asking $350. I havent seen many in person to compare the price, but all of the ones I've seen on the auction boards are much more. Opinions?

I dunno. Do you want it? Do you have $350? I wouldn't pay $350 for a 1917 but I am not looking for one. I paid $90 for the one and only 1917 I have owned. Kept it about six months before selling it. Guess I wasn't too impressed. Kept the 1955 Target about the same length of time. I think I just don't care much for the .45 ACP in a revolver. But, we're talking about you. Do you want it? Do you have the money?

In Northern Virginia you'd be lucky to touch such a revolver for under $600.

The wobbly cylinder isn't a problem, unless you can wobble it more than about the thickness of a dime when the trigger is all the way back and the hammer is down.

Even then, that's a fairly easy fix.

$500-$700 is what I've been seeing on the the auction sites, but they tend to run high. I think $350 is a pretty good deal for this gun.
Do I have an extra $350 right now? Not really, but I really want a model 625 and they run about $550, so this would be a savings of $200...and how can I pass that up? Hey...that's my wife's logic and what's good for the gander is good for this goose.

Wobbly cylinder and $350. Doesn't seem like all that outstanding a deal to me.

You are not going to be unhappy if you save for the 625 and get a prime condition gun.
