HKP7& vs. Glock 33

I have a Glock 33/LaserMax/+1 Scherer magazine additions. I have been practicing with the 33 because unlike many that have posted, I just can't get up to speed with this gun. I'm a big guy, but accurate and fast follow-up shots are very difficult for me with this gun. My Glock 21 is easy, but the kick with this small & light pistol is a challenge. I just shot my new P7M8. I consider these pistols to be in direct functional competition. At 50 yards bench rest the P7 puts five into one inch, whereas the Glock shoots 2 7/8". When shooting offhand at seven yards the H&K shines. When shooting rapidly the P7's grouping is much smaller. Both speed and accuracy is much better with the P7. Now, that is my experience, but it is hard for me to imagine a different outcome with other shooters. I really like the Sig .357 on paper, but I'm thinking of retiring the Glock. I'm not a 9mm fan, but the differences were not subtle. I've seen many of you claiming great results with the 33. You claim little problem with recoil, but I just can't go along. I'm seriously thinking of putting the 33 to rest. Perhaps continued practice will change all of this, but I doubt that it will change substantially.

I have not shot the G33 but I have owned a G31 and presently own a G27. No you will not get anywhere near the followup shots with the 357sig or small G27 as you will with the all steel 9mm P7. However if your G33 shoots less than 3in at 50yds you should keep it anyway or if you wish to sell it let me know.

Gary:

If you want accuracy, the 357 SIG round isn't it.

I would try running the Glock 19 and G26 against the P7. They aren't as accurate as the P7 but pretty close for self defense and tactical purposes.

Even the P7 is just a nice combat gun. It is not a target gun!

You've got to compare guns in the same caliber using the same ammo for your comparison to hold true.

I'm not a big proponent of rarer calibers oustide of the .380 ACP, 9mm, 38 SPL, 40 SW, and 45 ACP range. Commerical ammo can be hard to locate and expensive outside of the above.

This sort of shooting is something the P7 does very well. It was designed with it in mind. Glocks are normally pretty good as well. My G21 was very good at close range shooting under a variety of conditions. The P7 always seemed a touch faster for me though.

The .357SIG caliber is one of those things that seem trendy at the moment. Personnally, it sounds like trouble and I want nothing to do with it. Just the logistics from a reloading standpoint would turn me off. I don't see it doing anything .45 and 9mm can't do. I feel pretty much the same way about the .40.

Gary, do you mean 50 feet on that? I ask because I consider that amazing. Not saying it ain't so, just that it's many times better than what this shooter can do with a pistol. I wouldn't even think a Ransom Rest hold would create those 5-shot groups at 50 yards, let alone a bench rest hold. I could be wrong, though...

Gotta disagree with JTDuncan - in my experience the .357 Sig has been an extremely accurate round. I've never had difficulty with follow-up shots from my 33, but if the P7 works for you, why not use it? The pinned bbl and the gas-delayed blowback action makes it a much more accurate 9mm than most. Gary H, just for kicks, have you tried anyone else's 33 (or larger Glock .357)? Is there any chance it's just the individual pistol? In any event, don't feel bad about getting rid of a pistol that's not working for you.
cheers,

Great gun the P7, in it's various iterations. Deal breaker for me has been factory service, poor at best, in my experience. Perhaps the same for large clients like the Utah State Patrol, which was reduced to buying new P7M13s and stripping them for replacement parts. A pity as the P7 is an extremely accurate shooter.

I guess that what I have learned is that the Sig .357 is a bit hot for a small light platform. This is at least true in my hands. What I have read on these boards is repeated claims that the recoil of the 33 is abut the same as larger guns and guns of lesser caliber. My experience says that it isn't so. I think a large frame would take care of the problem. My only problem with the Sig .357 is I have had serious problems with bullet collapse into the shell
